I have always used Google maps along side Microsoft's birdseye view, but When I recently updated my os I tried the included maps app. using the impressive 3d feature you can really get a feel for a location before ever stepping foot on the ground. i wouldn't replace physical scouting, but this is a useful tool for gathering intel and mapping.

I can't seem to get the 3D option to work, is it only available for viewing in certain areas of a map? such as. large cities or farm land areas?

they are implementing it in more and more regions... its still mostly just the larger cities in north america for now though, its awesome where it works though.

Okay I got it to work for san francisco, it's only slightly different than googles street view. still a cool feature that I'll be likely to use
