I've been a member of UER for about three years, but haven't really been very active in posting. However, in the past year I've visited a certain spot that I can't stop going back to, a series of abandoned subway cars and streetcars in the woods. These vehicles sit on what seems to be an abandoned spur line for an old mining operation. The site is listed as a business that intends to restore the cars, and has both cars that appear to be in very good shape and others that are on the brink of collapse. The streetcars and subways in this location must have been carried a great distance to be where they are now, with some being from Pittsburgh, some from Philadelphia, and others from Boston. I have much more information and many more pictures from this site if this post generates interest. Hope you enjoy! 1.

I wonder how long they have been sitting there.

From information I've gathered and my observations, I'd have to say they've been there since the 90s.

If that's the case, I wonder how long that person/company has been planning on restoring them.

They must have been brought there with the intent of restoration and there is a small shop at the site where some of the cars are restored. The only activity I've noticed there in my time going was that nearly all of the overgrowth was cleared at one point.

The whole place has an eerie feel to it. I have also recently heard about a bus graveyard that isn't too far away, so I'll be sure to share some pictures from that once I can make a trip.

That top interior photo I posted was from one of the SEPTA heavy rail cars. Apparently they used to run on the elevated railroad in Chicago before being converted for use in Philadelphia. I was amazed that even the glass globes that cover the lighting fixtures are still intact!

On the aerial view, the cars in photos #1 and 2 are lying on their sides in front of the shop. They're upright in your photos but not placed on any rails. I'm sure the aerial is at least half a decade old. I wonder how they uprighted them and got them along side the other cars? Any ruminations, Porky?

The cars you saw lying on their sides are from Cleveland and were most likely having their undercarriages ripped out to be used as parts to restore other vehicles. The ones in my photos are actually from Pittsburgh and are sitting on rails. Those ones have rusted so badly that the body has started collapsing on top of the wheels so they look like they aren't on top of a track.
