hey guys. I'm in Iowa City for the week for a business trip. Anyone familiar with the area? Any suggestions on things to see while I'm in town?

I'm originally from Iowa (Dubuque), and once spent a year living in Iowa City. Unless something seriously big has changed in Iowa City in the past ten years, I can't think of anything (even small stuff) worth checking out. I explored the University of Iowa steam tunnels with some other explorers once, but we got busted and I'm pretty sure they sealed off our entrance (which was under an overpass). If you drive out into the rural lands around Iowa City, you might find some abandoned farm houses though. Otherwise, head to Cedar Rapids and look for flood ruins, but that stuff is probably mostly gone now too.

I'm in IC! I honestly haven't explored anything in town proper (partly my own tastes, here, but I haven't seen much that looked wanting), and I suppose it will make a difference what kind of stuff you'd like to see. There are a lot of old farm houses within 1-2 hours if you're willing/able/interested in taking a day or afternoon off. I don't think there's much in the way of old industry or professional facilities near here, but I could be wrong about that so if you get any other leads best of luck with them!

With regard to cedar rapids, I was up wandering around the flooded neighborhoods two summers ago and between our month-apart visits around half of the concentration of damaged buildings in little Bohemia had been bulldozed. That said, I wager some of those things were in situations or states of repair that weren't seized by the city and there may still be some standing. As far as I'm aware, the steam tunnels are fairly well sealed up but I know they were running tours a few years ago.

I've posted a few sets to this forum, which are a pretty representative sample of things I've encountered. If you'd like some notes to have in reserve, PM me. The SE area of the state is good for a nice Sunday drive.
