I wonder... I have no idea why the turbines have different colours. And yeah, we needed almost a whole (winter) day for this beast.

Wow, what was the purpose of this place?

To produce electricity - it's a power plant.

The different coloring of the turbines is done to make unit # identification more reliable and consistent when performing operations or maintenance. This is a common human performance error reducing technique which you see often at plants with many units.
Example, you have a task to perform on Unit #5, and you begin walking from the end of the plant where unit #1 is, and you lose your bearings and wind up on unit #6 and now perform your task on the wrong unit.... Bad juju.....

Well, if you know that unit #5 is the Yellow unit, and unit #6 is the green unit, you are far less likely to make that mistake.
