It's funny because Sochi won't look much different when it's forgotten

Ha.

I was gonna post a pic of the bobsled track in Sarajevo 'cause it's the only abandoned Olympics site I've been to, but there's already a pic in that article, so I won't.

Actually, I did also go to the 1936 Olympic Athlete's village in Berlin, but that's not technically "abandoned" as they do tours on the site though. But a lot of the buildings at the back of the property have been left to decay and they don't take visitors to those. We got caught by security, charged with trespass and fined. And it was a boring site.

Sarajevo was sweet though. Interesting how a city can go from pretty much centre of the world to destroyed in 7 short years.

We found this one abandoned gym that had been used for taekwondo and judo in the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics. It's completely gone now so I made it publicly viewable in the LDB.

I live in Atlanta, (site of the '98 olympics) and we have quite a few venues here that are left over from the games.

From the little I have heard that the Ice cube was built to be modular. A millionaire in england bought it and is going to move it there.

The greece buildings are really bad from what I heard. Only one of the 22 buildings is being used, from what I heard on tv.

The 1998 Winter Olympics were in Nagano, Japan.

And here is Sochi.
I don't trust these pictures entirely. They might have been taken on a Sunday early morning on a rainy day. Then Rotterdam would look just like that.

And I can recommend this psychogeography book on this topic:

There are chapters on London, Munich, Mexico and Athens.

That's right, Atlanta was 1996. I remember seeing live on TV when that bombing happened, when I was in Korea in 1996. Then we had to transfer flights in the US shortly after that, which was extra unnerving.

The shots you posted of that place are fucking incredible.

But anyways, I hope that the Russian venues get repurposed but it wouldn't surprise me if they just sat there unused
