That font scares the bejesus out of me, definitely worth checking this forum out. Hate to think what they have planned for all the precious buildings and horticulture.

Center lawn. You will notice the font on the above notice, sleek and futuristic, it denotes a brand new future completely estranged from the past.

I will be following this closely.

I really hope the community leans hard on the Provincial Government on this file. Walk around downtown, the streets of Vancouver are just a giant mental hospital ward. Few are looked after, nobody is getting better.

For the sake of everyone with mental illness, that place needs to re-open to serve them - in whatever modernized form that should take.

(Lots of room there for drug treatment too).

Sadly, that the failure of deinstitutionalization was a budgetary decision hidden behind the facade of public welfare, is something you'll never hear a sitting politician in North America admit.

Dropped in tonight, had some coffee and cookies. BC building execs present.

The significance statement.

The future of Riverview, bottom line "No market housing" so they say. When I spoke to one of the execs,he had no clue when I brought up woodlands, what we are doing here is a one year vision project to see how the public feels. You will notice on the bottom line "No market housing".

Make no mistake this is war, one glance at the satellite map makes it clear what they have planned. We must get involved and make some noise, the "vision process" is a year, have your voice heard or we our going to lose this heritage. Anything but market housing!

Have your voice heard! For posterity and great justice.

They going to reopen riverview. I personally think its a good thing. They should never have closed it. Many ppl went from there straight to the downtown east side.

Im not sure what the plans are for the west lawn building... it has seen much better days. Hopefully i get in there before they tear it down or renovate it.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

Dollar signs.... The native band is only interested in developing Riverview to the fullest extent.

Gets even better. Lots of cash flowing from the legislature all the way up to the mouth of the Coquitlam river. http://globalnews....dollars-in-salary/

I have heard a few ideas floating around... a UBC campus, rehab facilities.
As much as I would love them to keep the land how it is, abandoned and beautiful (makes for nice jogging), if they were to redevelop the land I would hope it would be for mental health or rehab facilities.

Thanks so much for providing all this information about the current state of Riverview. It is an incredible piece of history. I, too, hope they will reopen for mental health services. It was a massive loss for so many people to close them.

The latest. I was down there a little while back, dropped into Finnies garden talked with an old timer, there is some grassroots push back, in fact he described the upkeep of Finnies garden as a political gesture because as he put it "these our lands they belong to us not the government". Apparently one and a half million was recently spent on a new roof for Crease.

West lawn

Center lawn

East lawn

Latest notice clipped out of the paper. I encourage anyone who can attend to do so.

New facility main building is already up. I will report back with current pics ASAP.

Looks like PCL is running the project.

Lots of construction workers milling about on-site during the week, might be a good opportunity to blend.

There is an active, but unfinished construction site closer to the Orchid Dr. entrance.

While I'm happy to see new construction on the site dedicated to mental health, this building is simply replacing the Burnaby Centre for Mental Health which will close once this place gets up and running. The result is no new net mental health beds.
