Posted by Avatar-X Just remember, it's cheaper to put a sign that says "alarm will sound" than it is to actually install an alarm. Often these doors are propped open by employees on smoke breaks, etc. -av

A place I used to work had card access and exit. If you left the building before the end of your scheduled work day, you'd get docked whatever time you were absent from the building.
They had one of these on the back door of the breakroom to keep people from sneaking out early. If you went out that way, you wouldn't get docked. The alarm did sound if you pushed the panic bar, but it was easily bypassed by pushing the latch with your access card.
They started getting suspicious when people starting showing a more entries than exits in the access log. So they upgraded the alarm to one where if you opened the door in any way, the alarm would ring.
Then one day, some clever sysadmin was the last one out for the day on a Friday. He pushed the panic bar and the alarm rang until the battery was drained and it was back to early egress.
