This week, I've been wandering the streets of Boston. A year ago today, I found an abandoned penthouse sitting between two floors of a building repurposed as a shopping center. Being an absolute fuck, I took no pictures. Now, I went back determined, to find it boarded up, every door locked, 24 hour guard, and the elevator button disabled. That sucked.

Has anybody else had big disappointments with explorations? Sites that weren't worth the trouble, or places that you saw slip away?

I was looking forward to checking out this grain elevator that had been open when I was going to check it out. Came a week later and it was completely sealed up. It will probably be sealed up forever now.

I went outside once, it was horrible.

However, there is a hotel near me that I've presumed has an amazing view. The only time i went to scout it there were fresh boot prints leading into the building from the wet parking deck. Figured out there was more than just one security guard at that point and promptly gave up. Yet to make it back there to scout, but now i know to always go after it rains.

There was a building here in Atlanta that I was planing on checking out very soon, but it collapsed due to the snow storms we've had here. Missed opportunity.

Locked rooftop doors to good spots, buildings and structures rendered un-doable and un-climbable, more security to places, etc.

Trying multiple buildings, and finding that the roof access is blocked off by a giant metal grill that you can't climb over, like the ones in parking garages, pic kinda related:

^ If you have upper body strength, then that's enough to climb the fence BELOW to get to the other side.

Driving 5 hours to this tiny quaint town that existed three years prior to discover most of it was burnt to the ground and there were only a few shells and a small church left, yet to this day I still can't find anything reported on the fire. Women at a strange bar told us about it.
Driving 3 hours to a town that we knew was actively being town down only to miss 4 of the best buildings by only a few hours. They were working so fast.. We saw them tear down the last wall of the old school and that was that. Friendly town for people who are going to have their homes leveled by 2015...

That doesn't work, I apologize for the picture, as it doesn't really accurately describe the situation. See, imagine a fence in a stairwell, where it goes all the way up to the ceiling while also touching the floor. It's really hard to explain, its almost like a cage, maybe this pic would help (its terrible, I know)

Remembered now. There was this very tall crane with a large fence and security booth right next to it. During its last days, they removed the booth and replaced the fence with a skimpy, six-foot tall one. I was ready to tackle it then, and when I came back in a few days, the entire crane was dismantled.
