Abandoned Walmart in Dickson City, PA?

Considering making a trip up to the Scranton, Pennsylvania area from DC, and, among other things, I want to explore the abandoned Walmart in Dickson City, i.e. this:

https://maps.googl...,0.002401&t=h&z=19

Has anyone else explored this site? Is this a fairly easy site to explore, or a more difficult one? I can't imagine it being that difficult as a one-story big box store, and the view from Google Maps, as well as this Flickr gallery, leads me to think that it's a fairly straightforward access. Likewise, any information about what to expect about this particular site and any special gear that I would need would be greatly appreciated.

I heard they are going to knock this historic Walmart down and build a kirkbride…

Had to say it because it's very odd to find an abandoned Walmart. But really, I have not been here but judging from those pictures on Flickr it looks pretty laid back.

That was my thought as well. Seems fairly straightforward. I was thinking that as long as I brought along a partner, a good light source, and some protective gear just in case, I ought to be okay doing some photos.

You're going to SCRANTON... and you want to explore a WAL-MART?

Oh-kaaaay....

I'd think one could find better things to do there.

There's always the Lace/Curtain factory but that's been gutted and featured on a few TV shows recently, not to mention having been added to the National Registry of Historic Places. The owner gives photo tours of the place in groups numbering about 30 as well. I don't know how access is these days if you prefer a self-guided, free tour.
There's also the coal-breakers but the one is being dismantled.
Is the Walmart the one where the boulder rolled down the mountain and crashed into the side of it near the old Dixmont property?

Not my picture, but the inside is just as exciting as the outside. It is empty and all the drywall has turned to sludge. No racks, no items, and one old lawnmower. Not worth it in the least.

I think you blended two stories.

With the Wal-mart in Dickson City a boulder did roll down the mountain and smash into it causing them to abandon it.

Dixmont State Hospital was supposed to be demolished for a Wal-mart but it turns out the hospital and its foundation were the only things holding the hillside up. After they demoed it there was a landslide (just like an engineer told there there would be) and the ground was declared too unstable to build on, so no Wal-mart.

And that is Pennsylvania's exploring related epic Tale of Two Wal-Marts.

Walmarts are best abandoned. Not sure if you'd find more crackheads in an active or an abandoned one, though.

That's why I said "among other things" above. I imagine that the Walmart will take an hour, hour and a half tops, so the idea is to include it as part of an otherwise full day of other various activities while up that way. I'm something of a retail design nerd (among other things), so the abandoned Walmart seems at least mildly interesting. The way I see it, if the Walmart is less photogenic than I hope, then there will still be plenty else to do in the day.
