When I was younger, my mother drove me by a couple neat spots and we checked them out. We used to pick blackberries at this abandoned lot with nothing but a chimney left from the burnt down house that used to occupy the space. Even now when hiking, we like to go where the signs tell us not to; there's always something interesting where we aren't allowed to go!

Went with my 2yo son to an art exhibit at one of our local vacant factories. Some of the art inside scared him a bit and he wanted to go back outside, but he was SUPER interested in climbing in and out of the "portable artists' studio" in a shipping crate.

When I was a kid, my parents love going for drives. We'd often stop at abandoned houses/buildings and take a look inside.

I took my old man to explore an abandoned motel once, he was nervous as hell about getting caught, but it was still a fun time.

Your pictures make my heart smile and my eyes tear. I have an older girl and younger boy so it reminds me of them. They are both grown up now, but I miss the young years. The time flies by so don't miss a moment.

Thanks for sharing!

My dad enjoys exploring if the place is relatively safe. Here he is in a church.

I do not have any children yet, but, I did take my nephew exploring with me twice before his mother shoved a stick up her butt. Maybe I'll even take my girlfriend's son with me someday when he's older (or when I buy a car, because a 5yr old on a motorbike is child endangerment).

Anyways, these are of my nephew when I briefly introduced him to urban explorations:

He does miss going with me :/

This post gives me brief, fleeting pangs of sadness that I ain't ner gonna have no childrens. Cause I would totally did this. If I did. But... yeah. Not a good enough reason to be scattering my seed any place. Newp.

While my folks haven't ever been out exploring with me, both my mother and my partner's mother have been alarmingly supportive and somewhat excited about our adventures. Theirs has dug up information for us about places we can go/suggested ways to find out about things in our area and is going to take us up to take pictures of an (active) factory near where she lives when we visit. Mine took a bunch of photos of the power plant in my home town after I lamented not being able to go look at it when I was there last. I might take her by some of the farm houses next time she's down here

I don't have kids but my best friend did, and since she is my partner in crime when her daughter got old enough we started taking her with us. We wouldn't go to higher risk places, often it was one we had checked out and knew was safe. Her son never had the interest at all, would rather play video games.
When she was about 16 she was staying at my place with her Mom and one of her friends texted her to go to a party, she said no, she was hanging with her Mom and "Second Mom"...her nickname for me. Her friend thought she was weird. She ended the texting and said "They don't get it, you guys are way more fun to hang with!!"

I would LOVE to take my daughter! She's 11-1/2 right now and I know she would freaking love it! Oh, one problem...

I have full custody and the mom would work any angle to take her. Its not worth the risk.

I'm not married to his Mom anymore, and he doesn't speak to me, but I hope he stays with it.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Back in spring of 1978, my mom was on her way home from her school, a two minuet walk to the apartment complex on Rose Lawn just off of Bathurst in Toronto, and her brother ran up to her and proclaimed that he was going into the old incinerator at the corner of the street with his friends, and that she should come. She was eleven at the time, but she was still down for it. They went into this place in the dead of night and worked their way into the ventilation catacombs. They went back there all the time after that, even leaving candles in the catacombs for anyone to light. A couple of times, she worked her way into the work stations and found old calendars and magazines from the early fifties. She told me that one of her most fond memories is sitting at the bottom of the smokestack on a summer evening, just looking up at the sky through this massive telescope. She never explored anywhere else until April of this year, which caused all of the memories to come flooding back. My mom was doing UE before I could have even been a concept.

My Dad and I explored a lot, exclusively rural, abandoned farms, caves, nothing posted or with trespassing signs however.

Carrying on the tradition my daughter was a natural although way more cautious explorer than her old man.

Yep I was an enabler and set a bad example.

My girls will probably end up exploring at some stage.
If they don't get taken away from me first.

My father used to hang out in the Essex Mountain Sanatorium all the time . He and his friends would play basketball in the auditorium. I almost got him to go to the Essex Jail Annex with me years ago but he never really wanted to go.

Awhile back, my mom and I took a drive out to Holy Hill - a very historic Catholic complex in the area. It is still active, but the place (including one of the steeples) is completely open to the public and the views are incredible.

http://www.travelw...ine-of-mary-203528

We arrived only to find out that it was off limits for some sort of maintenance.

So, I said, "Well mom, if you wanna get outside of the box I know a place not far from here". I had talked with her numerous times about exploring so she knew what I was about to get her into. I assured her that this place was low key and we would face no trouble at all. She agreed and off to Solvay Coke we went.

As we were pulling in, a cop van pulled right in behind us. He looked at my mom's large window decal which advertised her custom sewing business. He didn't even look twice and pulled away. So we went in.

She was so much more intrigued than I could have ever hoped for. The look of fascination and wonder on her face was truly priceless. So much so that she must have went home and researched the place because, a couple days later, she called me talking about all these facts and history about the location. It was an amazing day with one beautiful Pomeranian doggie tagging along. I will cherish this photo for the rest of my life.
