First Big Explore

In the early 80's when my friends and I were around 12 years old, we found this old jewel mostly boarded up and full of amazing artifacts including a massive roll around safe. It had been closed up in the late 60's. It was a treasure trove of exploration and my first big explore. It was also home to more than a few homeless and they scared the shit out of us on several occasions! Mostly running into them at unexpected times. I've been here more times than any other explore. Nowadays it is just a cleared out hull with some great memories from when the world was still just a big mystery. I hope you enjoy what's left.

The graffiti in photo 15 says, "smoke weed not meth." From now on I am getting sage medical advice from two reliable sources; Jenny McCarthy and urbex locations.

Disregard that graffiti! This location is in the heart of the 417 area code, meth production capitol of the US. Our hillbillies depend on the sale of meth to support their glamorous lifestyles. Let me be the vanguard in saying buy 417 meth and not weed! Thanks for your support!

I am in absolute love with this building. I love the old architecture. The inside is a hollow shell but is somehow still interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Even though it's all cleared out, as you say, there's a really nice feeling about the empty desertion of this place. I like it.

I think I know what this place is...if I'm right, I believe restoration efforts were being discussed before Joplin got hammered by that tornado.

I too would be interested in knowing what the place used to be! The building's gorgeous. I also love the light you've captured inside of it, many of these photos are stunning and you really capture a sense of the space. I could almost here the footsteps echoing through the interior. Very lovely set.

Thanks everyone. The outside architecture is pretty stunning and unique. I didn't show a lot of that just to keep the location a little more protected. The renovation started and ended long before the tornado was a factor, however. The idiots in charge of the city coffers just decided to piss away countless millions on some fucking baseball team that no one will ever watch.

Awesome building, and righteous railing. Very nice.

Would you happen to have any pics from when you first started going there? Looks beautiful without anything inside that I can only imagine how much more awesome it was back in the day.

Wow, I'm surprised that's still there! I remember being by there in 1989 or so and it looked pretty much the same, at least on the outside. I have one picture I believe.

Haven't been back since.

It was awesome but that was long before I ever owned a camera. We're talking way pre cellphone. Junior High for me. It never even crossed my mind to take pictures to be honest.
