I have 2 card slots in my camera…one for backup so I just agree to delete what I have and they are still on my other card when I get home

That's cool

Pretty sure most cops get trained on common hiding spots (mostly for drugs). If they're doing a thorough search they'll probably find your stuff, then you'll be viewed with more suspicion because you knowingly hid it.

That's not to say you can't store a memory card in a legitimate but not overly obvious place, like an obscure pocket of a bag or slipped inside a first aid kit or something. Swap cards if you have a chance, then if the other one is found, well, gosh, it got full or had an error and you just now switched to your spare.

If you somehow need to bring "special" items that would cause more trouble, make a special trip with them and be prepared to drop/stash them on-site if something comes up. It sucks to drop a $30 set of picks, but it beats a $100 ticket (and you benefit people like me, who found picks that someone else dropped ). In general I try not to explore with anything ridiculously incriminating, but as others have said, pretty much anything can be a "burglary tool" if the cop wants to be a dick about it.

Agreed, I don't hide my SD card, just place it into a pocket that it naturally hides itself due to size and location.

I've had to bring tools before, and I stash them onsite, hidden, near my exit point. Better to leave them behind, recover later, rather then criminal charges.

Once you're caught, you're caught.

That's how I feel. Write me the ticket and let me get back to my exploring. As for spare cards I always try to carry one. Mainly because I'd hate to have spent six or eight hours in a place only to have a cop, etc delete it while looking at my pics. You never know...

Hiding a bag of tools near my exit point isn't that extreme, it is easy to do and seems easier then carrying around a heavy pack full of incriminating evidence.

There is a big difference between a trespass to property ticket or a criminal brake and enter charge, with possession of burglary tools thrown in for good measure.

If you are caught, intent is going to play the biggest role (especially on federal property). Don't worry about camera equipment, focus on anything that would incriminate you as an arson or intent to destroy property and try to loose those items. (i.e., lock picks, lock cutters, anything that can ignite a flame, etc.)

I've raced to beat the spotlights off Indian Land. They had located my vehicle (parked with permission on private land) and knew we had hiked in. This was the only time I contemplated losing my card. My friend and I hid our cards but when we split up and it looked like we were done for, he chucked his and mine was in my hand to toss right as the lights gave up and moved further down. We made it of the land but them finding us before then or the proof on the cards would have been bad.

only to have a cop, etc delete it

There are several photo recovery programs around. Just let the cop or security wanker think they've deleted your pics, then go home and undelete them.

Or you could delete them yourself in the time it takes to pull the card out and hide it someplace.

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

Only if they can find them. I suggest shoving them as far up your ass as possible. You can never be too safe!

After reading the title of this sad post, here's my contribution.

Don't hide your dildos in the attic. Someone - kids, nieces, random snoopy explorers - will rifle through ALL your shit as soon as you kick the bucket.

If apprehended pretend to be very scared and puke all over the officer's shoes. They're responsible for cleaning their patrol cars out at the end of the shift and if you morph into a taco bell/kfc/burger king vomitfountain they will think twice before arresting you.
I know this because it worked for me as a teen when I got really drunk. They called my Mom to come get me.

Also, if they try to write you a ticket, puke on their citation booklet.

I don't hide anything. No point. Once you're caught, you're caught. Best course of action is to not get caught. HA!

Well i go to the local psych hospital every 1-3 weeks and I am not worried. I'll carry anything. But in a new location I will replace memory card and put the other one in my pocket and for IPhone pics, well I doubt they'd ask for that.

I think that summarizes quite it succinctly.
