My experience with the MVTF was weird. I approached them in 2010, a year or so after Jacques, the founder, died. I offered to night shoot/light some of the collection. They were totally into it, thinking calendars and posters etc. I went 11/10, got a few shots, had equipment failure. Revisited in 2/11 and had a great night of shooting, indoors, in a freak snow storm!

I was pretty happy with the images. E-mailed them to everyone in charge "Aren't these bitchen? lets do more!", and got no response. Crickets chirping. After 6-months of inquiring I gave up. I came to find out years later that the place was in political turmoil, and most of the guys I dealt with had been ousted. Apparently Jacques widow HATES the museum. She would see it sold off entirely and erased from her mountainside, but his trust makes it very difficult. I guess, the last thing the MVTF.org was thinking about was advertising.

I put a few of these on flickr, but have never shown most of these publicly:

A friend told me a few months ago that they were auctioning off the key pieces in the collection. I ended up selling a few of these pix to the auction house, so it wasn't all bad. Unfortunately, they told me my 3 favorite pieces are gone already: the Panther, Kettenrad and Skdfz Halftrack. Pretty sure there's still over 100 vehicles up there, so it's definitely worth the trip.

Say hi to Adolph the cat for me.

About a month out. Three spaces available for the tour, and I'm guessing one or two extras wouldn't break the bank over there.

Great pics Lost...

Look forward to seeing you all at 1PM next Saturday. Is there any specific meeting place or are there any last minute logistics?

Good idea. Lunch somewhere nearby at 11:45 or noon? I haven't been to the Alpine Inn in about a hundred years. Anyone game?

Google maps: Alpine Inn to MVTF

I'd love to get a chime-in or a PM from oh-ten, D Ralter and plexiglas to confirm. digger69, you could probably just tag along. I can't imagine they'll turn away one extra in a group of 10.

Los trancos and vista Verde is all hills if coming from alpine. Going home would be all down hill for you. Portola valley is mountain country and horse stables

It's about 1500' climb in about 5 miles from the Alpine Inn. It's going to be a nice day though, if you're thinking about riding up.

Are your +2 biking as well? Are you going to meet for lunch at Alpine Inn, or just go all the way?

There is a cool little pub on the way up there. Lotsa historic pics and trinkets and you can attach a dollar or your panties to the ceiling I think?
Is that the Alpine inn?
