A Psychiatric Center Re-visited

Conquered my first beast in the Northeast.

While visiting five long years ago, I took the train from upstate down into the city for the first time. Since awakening early that morning I had dreams of exploring old, rusty ruins throughout the city. My eyes were glued to the windows for the entire ride, scoping for any abandonment worth returning to scout. I didn't get to explore any abandonment that day but this is what I spotted through the train window that has haunted my memory ever since. There are 30 or so large buildings that you can see rising all the way up to the top of the hill with a giant 8+ story hospital at the top. Here is the view from the train.

A few days ago I realized I would have the opportunity to go back and visit. I asked some friends about the place and they had been here before! We talked about possible ways in without being detected, and I mentioned that I believed tunnels existed below the entire complex, linking each building. They didn't believe me, but I proved them wrong. While I did prove to be a master of infiltration and research, I still suck at photography. The adrenaline and history are enough to keep me exploring for many years to come but I doubt any of you will reap the benefits through my pictures. You will have to come out to see yourself sometime, for there are miles of tunnels and acres of buildings that lay untouched since 1996. Here are a few without flooding your browser window

This place is so photogenic that it can even make an amateur such as myself seem like I know what I'm doing. I could post so many more pictures. I will be back for more and soon. One could explore for days and not see it all. In the meantime, could some of you show me your pictures of this place or send me relevant links?

Nice set. It's gutted now, they are making it a college.

Definitely not gutted, entire wings are still untouched and intact. (And likely unvisited by most explorers.) It appears as if they have only renovated 2 rooms in one building. It will be a long time before they would be able to open it as a college.

Killer set, not a photo I didn't like and the location is stunning.

I saw photos of the morgue stripped, and I know folks who go there semi frequently who have said its not worth the effort anymore. I know the efforts are stalled right now, but they really didn't waste any time getting started.

Oh, and as for the "master of infiltration" and "untouched since 1996", not so much lol. I know at least 50 people who have gone here, and a lot of stuff is staged, as with all abandonments. It isn't easy, but its not like Bridgewater or anything.

I was just messing around, haha. I have been on some military base explorations which took a lot of stealthiness, so it was rather easy comparably. Most of it is gutted and some asbestos abatement in a few buildings has occurred. However, there were wings of buildings that were locked up tightly and in looking through the windows I noticed furniture and artwork still hanging on the walls. Did not make it to the main hospital this time, but in driving by over the years I have seen construction workers going up there. In the auditorium I think we were actually exploring while the painters were on lunch break. It's so weird going from that area down into the tunnels and right back into areas that are still in complete disrepair.

Stick to the tunnels when you go to the upper campus medical buildings. The tunnel is something you have to experience a least once.

But nice shots, it is really cool to see the auditorium renovated like that. Looks like they are serious about fixing it up, which is nice to see.

I think its so weird on here how some people will search an entire post just for something to be nasty about! whatever floats your boat I guess, sad situation when you need to come on the internet and cut others down to feel better about yourself.

anyway, this set is awesome and it looks like a fabulous location!

I say don't believe everything (or anything?) you hear from other explorers for the most part! people seem to have their own interests in mind and that's all. Additionally, what is 'not worth the visit' to some may be interesting to others.

best bet is to go yourself in all cases.

cheers!

Easiest thing would be to go and find the lack of these things you hope for.
