Today, a friend and I made a trip out to the good old Deer Trail missile solo, and, it was incredible to say the least. Unfortunately though, we were on a time crunch and couldn't spend all day there regardless it was a pretty breathtaking experience, especially seeing how big 15% of the entire silo that we explored was. We arrived about 1:30 in the afternoon and stuck around for a couple hours and took a SHITTON of pictures. Not really knowing how dark it was in there, we came very under-prepared, meaning we should of brought glowsticks, roman candles, steel-wool, and other crazy props to use in the long exposure photos. Now that I have been there, I'm stoked to get back out there and explore around much more than we actually did, we just got much to distracted with the whole picture taking activity.

here's some pics!

I know I deviated from B&W but I love how this came out!

dong or schlong?

This is only the start of nifty pictures there.......

And i only explore with the strobe setting. The standard setting is for squares. People tend to get a little upset with me, but it's the only way to truly live. -Relik

Awesome set man, the 7th image is great. I'm glad you made it out there, it is really a sight to see. And I totally feel your pain on the darkness, my first time there the little flash on my camera was not nearly enough to capture how big the rooms are. Especially the control dome and the silos.

Yeah, that happens every time we go out to the Titan. It has a way of making you always want more going through your lens.

I've been researching this location for a long while and really really really really want to go here. A friend and I want to make a documentary film on the Colorado Titans and one of the main things we want for the film is to film inside at least one silo. How easy it is to get into this silo?

Once again, thanks for all of the kudos! I'm working on getting my full member status and figure the only way to get it is to put in the exploring, which is a double-whammy because these places are too cool and I never would of though twice about exploring them if it wasn't for this site and its members. And Dan, the silo's are incredibly easy to get in to, all you have to do is repel down a 90 foot drop.... I don't know how well filming will be in there though, considering that it is pitch black. It could be done, but it would take a LOT of lights, which not to mention would be a pain to haul around that place.

We went in last month with a team of French filmmakers; they used primarily a Nikon D8000 with the ISO cranked way up and handheld lights. It's possible to do it with a minimum of setup, but it's a challenge.

Wait a D7000 or D800? That sounds pretty cool though, Thats like the canon cinema camera just recently had a software update that allows the old 20k Iso to be cranked all the way up to 80k, which seems unheard of to me. Half of the time I found myself turning corners and walking into rooms looking for the mystery box lol

The D7k and D800 are both excellent cameras. I have a Canon t2i currently and a Canon HD camcorder, and will have either a Canon 60D or Nikon D7k(still trying to decide which to upgrade to) by the time we go out to film. I also will be able to bring along some high powered video lights and a decent rig so lighting shouldn't be an issue.

800. One too many zeroes there haha.

I'd also like to note they had funding and support from Nikon France. Not a bad way to spend that corporate cheddar!

Dang! I wish Canon or Nikon would give me funding so I could do a film on UE. Lol. Maybe some day...

Nice set of picture! Agree that it's hard to light this place sometime, but the hardest thing, is to show how big this place is! Dome are insane.

There is a lot of dust and other particles in the air including asbestos. My friend has been down there many times w/o one and hasn't experienced any repercussions, but it wouldn't hurt to wear one. Apparently it smells like shit down there also, but I didn't take my mask off while I was down there so I can't say.
