I liked this quote, it seems very honest:

"All of the pieces of this puzzle are within our reach, and in following this path, we are guaranteed to learn more about neuronal development, axon guidance, ocular immune responses, and visual perception. Those are topics that are highly fundable by national research groups. In contrast, someone who proposes to restore the optic nerve would be accused of high-risk behaviour and visionary dreaming."

It's pretty amazing that if I cloned myself, and took the appropriate stem cells from my fetus, they could provide optic nerve replacement for 3 million humans.

I wonder if repairing your injury falls under "adult" or "embryonic" cells? You would think "adult" but the embryonic variety can be made into just about anything with the right "coaxing".

I think whatever the outcome, you'll probably be able to buy a ground-up fetus from Thailand or some other 3rd world shithole and get that shit fixed. The future looks bright for this developing biological technology.

Start savin'.

I was exploring a dairy, and walked through a doorway not foreseeing the absence of a floor. I landed on concrete, kneecap first....yes I knew I was alive!

Much better! Probably another year to get to 100%, but it's not as bad as losing vision in an eye, getting a finger severed, or that story earlier in the thread of falling down into a quarry. I'll count my blessings, yeesh.

Was in the process of slipping under a seemingly bent outward fence and as I was under it, the fence clamped down on my back. Had to pull myself forward to my waist to lift it back up..My shirt was torn and had some deep scratches to my lower back but nothing as bad as some people have it here! I was more upset about losing the shirt haha.

Knocked myself out in a tunnel once. There was a metal thing hanging down that I didn't see. My forehead found it and according to my buddy he just heard a loud clang and turned around to see the soles of my feet. I don't really remember though.

You mean....pointing out really easy, simple stuff?

Like how you say "lung cancer" but you've got a pic of someone smoking?

Yeah, that was a really difficult stretch to make. Totally makes me who I am...

You realize his lung cancer wasn't attributed to smoking, right? He got it from UE. Exploring without a mask.

EDIT: Since I replied... I haven't had any really bad exploring injuries. Worst is probably either rubbing a roughly 1" x 2" patch of skin to the point of bleeding while draining (waders didn't fit all that well) or bleeding blisters obtained during an epic 4 day UE meet. Hell, my everything hurt after that weekend.

Yeah, WB, I've seen the page. I just think it's kinda a incongruous thing, that's all.

Not much has happened. Once I got a minor frostbite on and around my nose after driving about 80 km on a snowmobile without a windshield and a proper mask, but even in that case it was my pride that hurt the most - oh man, how they laughed at me and my red nose...

I haven't been injured other than the usual minor cuts, scrapes, and bruises that go along with exploration. The worst injury was to my gear.

For the holidays I received a Canon 35mm f/2. A week later I take it exploring and have taken less than a dozen shots. I'm really excited about how well the lens is performing in this dimly lit urbex location. I set my tripod down, but hit it with my backpack when I turn around.

::CRASH::

Camera plants face first. The front of the 35mm lens is impacted and can't move. Repair costs ~$150. :/

Exploring in the desert. Very long walk back after some desert rats stole tires while we were exploring.

I could barely walk for a week ... and survived on 2 bottles of water the night that we had to make it back to civilization. Thank GOD we food, though.
