Chicago explorer Cross fell through a rusty tin roof and gashed the inside of his elbow at last year's CHIPEX. Then he went home and gave himself stitches. We recorded it.

Nothing major until today when I got my ass whooped by a 280lb hillbilly. Still nothing major. Just a black eye and some stripes of brushing on my chest from him trying to take my camera bag. He may have started it, but I sure finished it! About ten shots to his kidneys and he was down for the count. For the record I weigh 140.

That's ok. Give it a few years. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Broke a bone or two in my foot a couple months back kicking open a heavy door at my favorite local spot. Also got my leg cut on a fence at the same spot on my first explore...come to find out, you can just walk around the fence. FTW.

I busted my knee and got a nice gash slamming it on an iron fence spike when I slipped while climbing it in the rain. Put a nice gash in my head while using bolt cutters on an awkward spot on a ladder. All matter of cut hands and forearms from glass and barbed wire, nails in my feet back when I wore sneakers. Nothing major though in my time. I attribute this to me being fairly careful and generally indestructible.

I jumped a fence once, and there was a metal electrical box on the others side. Anyway, I figured rather than take the hard way down I could get atop the electrical box then just jump down from there.

So all goes as planned I jump down from the box and land on this large wooden plank. Only problem is the wooden plank had a big nail stick straight up that goes through my shoes and straight through my foot hahaha Luckily it didn't hit anything vital just hurt like hell.

Once again I have to post a new injury. My leg is all gashed because I fell through a door lying over a hole in the floor of an abandoned house today.

I didn't know there was a basement. Now I do.

It was only like seven feet and was more of a shock than anything.

Getting out was interesting. I had to dig through the collapsed dirt to a staircase I hadn't seen before.

it's darker later than it was at first

Couple years back was back roading with friends. They found a barn that looked creepy and wanted to check it out at night. After we were in we hear 2 warning shots fired off by the ranch owner and all took off running. A chick we were with fell down and twisted her ankle. I happened to be the only one who would go back to help her and decided I would jump the barbwire fence. 260 lbs (at the time) white guys cannot jump 4 ft high barb wire fences. Needless to say I got 6 stitches in the sack when the barbwire got me.

Two years ago I was with a group attempting to get into an abandoned building on a still-active psychiatric campus. We were using lights very minimally. At one point I shined my light through a window, which was a first floor window. All was good, but the window two down from it was unlocked. Stupidly, I made the assumption that it was also a first floor window identical to the one I had just lit up, and climbed through the window without using a light to look at the room. Unfortunately, it was a two story basement mechanical room, and the window I came in through was about 9 feet off the ground. I fell forward and landed chest across a roughly 8 inch cast iron pipe which was positioned about a foot above the ground. Initially it was my wrist which bothered me, but not too badly. Didn't actually go to the hospital until I reinjured myself a week and a half later, just sitting up in bed. Turns out I had fractured one rib, cracked two, and caused since fairly significant cartilage damage.

Last year I was camping at an abandoned military installation. The night was generally clear, and we were a little concerned about lights, so we were using them sparingly. I was in front and we were crossing an abandoned bridge over a creek within the installation. On one end of the bridge a large steel beam had been welded across to make it impossible to drive over the bridge. I swung myself under the beam, but what I didn't see was that there was a sign facing the other side bolted to the beam, with four steel bolts sticking out the back of the beam by about 6 inches. I slammed the top of my head into one of said bolts and bounced backwards onto my ass. Immediately I was in disbelief that I had hit something so fucking hard and hadn't knocked myself out or that my head didn't hurt... until I realized that my hair was warm and wet... didn't do anything to my skull and wasn't so large as to require stitches, but it bled more than any other injury I've had in my life, and I can still feel the round bolt-sized intent in my head.

of my stories: carry a fucking red light and use it to look at what you're fucking doing. Unless the police are literally right there, the danger of hurting yourself in the dark exceeds that of getting caught.
