Vintage Argus C3 Matchmatic (And various other gear) - Thread

Manufactured in Michigan in 1960 this all-American classic is a fully manual 35mm rangefinder. The Matchmatic is the upgraded version of the C3 sporting a two-tone leatherette instead of black. This particular camera is in almost perfect condition. The leatherette is only damaged on the back where the snap from the leather case rubs. This is typical of all Argus C3s.

This Argus has been professionally CLA'd (Cleaned, Lubed, and Adjusted) and is in PERFECT working order! The light meter is the only damaged part of this camera (aside from a small amount of wear on the leather protective case). The Argus uses a Selenium Light Meter, a type that does not age well. If you have a functioning Selenium Light Meter from 1960 then you have a very rare piece of equipment. On top of that the chrome on the light meter (and only the light meter) is a little corroded.

A unique feature of the C3 is that it's aperture and speed settings are labeled with whole numbers instead of their proper designations (i.e. "5" instead of f/5.6, or "7" instead of 1/125s) For the sake of useability I've attached a small chart to the top for quick reference of the different settings. It is only tapped down and can be removed without damaging the camera at all.

I am selling this camera with quite a few accessories as well! I'm not only including the light meter (Which is essential for collector value, even non-functioning) but also the flash unit, seven flash bulbs, the user manual, a lens filter attachment ring (but no filters), the protective leather case, and a leather and felt carrying case! All the leather is in excellent condition and free from the dry rot that usually accompanies age. You won't find a more complete Argus kit out there.

While a very basic camera the Argus C3's simplicity means that it will give you years of use without failure, and because every function on the camera is manual it allows for excellent artistic photos. The shutter cocking mechanism is not coupled to the film advance like it is on many newer cameras which makes it perfect for shooting artistic double exposures (See the last photo attached to this listing). The last two photos are both examples taken with this camera to show how well it preforms.
