After several days with nothing to do but organize, I have finally finished reorganizing all 402 locations in my personal database. It was an ordeal, but I've got it all organized now.
First off, by layer. I have ten layers:
- Explored buildings, still standing
- Explored buildings, demolished
- Unexplored buildings, verified (within Midwest)
- Unexplored buildings, unverified (within Midwest)
- Unexplored buildings, outside Midwest
- Unexplored buildings, demolished
- Explored rooftops/cranes/etc
- Unexplored rooftops/cranes/etc
- Explored underground
- Unexplored Underground
That way I can sort my locations by what I'm looking for. Local abandoned buildings I know are still standing? Done. Caves I haven't done before? Easy. You get the idea
Then I have each icon color coded, with each color carrying a specific meaning.
- Dark green: Explored within the last year
- Light green: Explored over a year ago
- Orange: Unexplored but verified within the last year
- Orange-red: Unexplored and verified over a year ago
- Maroon: Unexplored and unverified potential lead
- Blue: Unexplored before demolition
Finally each location has an icon that corresponds to the type of building it is, such as lightning bolts for power plants, factories for industrial locations, water drops for storm drains and shopping carts for commercial locations.
The end result is a map that allows me to quickly narrow down the exact type of location I'm looking for and sort them all based on confidence in the accuracy of my information. Plus by disabling irrelevant layers (say I only want verified locations so I disable all other layers) I can reduce the loading time on my phone while in areas of poor service.
