You're 4 years too late now, hon. Good try, though.

I was once in a not-quite-so-abandoned facility, with plenty of alarms in it, and found the room where the alarms were monitored. This was behind 3 locked doors at 5am, so I figured I was pretty safe.

But NOPE. As I sat there installing a backdoor on the computer system (so I could access this stuff remotely), I heard footsteps outside. Then keys. Then a key entering the door to where I was. Shit. What possible excuse could I have for being where I was, doing what I was doing?

A maintenance worker entered; my excuse was "early day for you too eh?" and his answer was "yup". No further questions. I didn't dare exit with him poking around an electrical panel 4 feet from me, so I happily kept along with my work. He had some trouble doing his own work, and called another person to help him. Then a third. And they were all contentedly doing this within spitting distance of me hacking their system.

They left, I left - no questions asked, no suspicions risen, no problems. They did apologise once for disrupting me though!

Somewhat goes to show, if you dress properly and are already in a restricted space, people just assume you have a legitimate reason to be there.
