Hilarious moments when you're spotted?

I was out and about this weekend down in Philly exploring around the area I grew up in, and I finally got to check out the underside of a bridge I used to cross every day when I was in first and second grade. It's not that impressive a bridge, just a little thing that crosses over Byberry Creek, and the only reason I really went down was to check out a drain, which I never got to get to because it was on the other end of the creek that I didn't get to cross.
But it was my mistake to wear ripped jeans, a baggy t-shirt, and a too-big hoodie with the hood up in Philadelphia, because when I emerged from beneath the bridge and looked up, there was an old guy walking his dog. We made eye contact, and I sort of waved awkwardly. And then, walking up the short path to get back to the road, I ended up following him a little coz we were going the same way. So his dog is yip-yipping away at me and this old guy looks about ready to crap himself with the wide-eyed glances he kept giving me over his shoulder. I must've looked like a druggie or something.
Never laughed so hard at being spotted by a passerby. Poor guy.

Has anyone else had similar amusing experiences with random civilians?

One time I walked in on a naked security guard giving himself a sinkbath. He understandably didn't do anything.

Another time I walked around the corner at an abandoned university campus, only to find a security guard standing facing my direction about ten meters in front of me. I was right out in the open. Then I realised he was having a piss and was understandably looking downward. I quietly backed up and disappeared.

I was at a popular location here doing a nude shoot. I was wearing my panties only. and a guy walked out and was like, "hey, whatsup?" and we chatted for a bit. Then these two college kid looking guys walked up and were like "whoa". So one pulled out his phone and goes "Give me your best pose" and takes a photo with his phone, boobs all out there and everything. lol

He walked away saying "I am going to tell everyone I found a naked ghost!"

I'm sure there will be some good ones here, as there are already.

I've had a couple good ones, but one situation in particular comes to mind. I was exploring an old munitions depot in South Jersey that was turned into an industrial park of sorts. Nobody was around, and I stumbled into a building that looks active, but the door is cracked open. Once inside I realize it must have recently been hit by scrappers because the water is still shooting all over the place from the pipes being chopped, and the ceiling tiles are all knocked out, but not completely soggy on the ground. Place is still full of contractor equipment, tools, all sorts of expensive stuff (weird they took the copper, and not the tools as well). I snoop a little more and find a huge stack of porn magazines and a bunch of female mannequin heads. Wtf?

I took a couple quick shots and was about to leave when I hear a car haul ass and stop right in front of the building I was in. "You've got to be fucking kidding me" I'm thinking. I figure this could be the owner, and not wanting to look like the scrapper that just nabbed his copper, especially with the creepy shit in this place, I quickly dipped out the back.... and end up running into a state trooper with his dick in his hand taking a piss behind the building. I didn't know weather to laugh or shit myself.

After an awkward few words about what I was doing there, I end up telling him what the building was originally used for, before it's days of tool and porn storage. He's cool about it and tells me I could check out the rest of the property, and to use his name if anyone said anything to me. Ended up being a great rest of the day despite that awkward beginning.

One way-late-night I was doing a solo explore with a low entry. I had basically spent too much unplanned time in this place looking for a misplaced item ("leave no trace") and I was becoming concerned that morning was approaching and traffic (both vehicular and foot) was soon going to manifest at this busy downtown intersection. It was around 4:30AM and I had to get out, ASAP.

The exit was ~20ft up-and-out of a manhole on a sidewalk at a downtown intersection of a large city. The manhole was nearly completely visible from every single direction, and there was no visual cover whatsoever due to the fact that it was downtown of a large city, with all curbs marked for public transit and emergency/commercial unloading. The lid was a grate, but there wasn't any useful visibility (you could only see if somebody was right on top of you), and there was always the drone of traffic. So it came down to near-blind luck that you had to exploit with speed and economy of movement (which is why it was a solo explore), then the GTFO-as-nonchalantly-as-possible-thing I'm sure everyone knows.

I'm under it. I'm listening. I decide to go for it. Go up the ladder. Listen again. Look out the grate for whatever its worth. Can't gain any useful perspective. Fuck it, I'm committed. Push up. One side lifts, as the lid/grate was keyed to the other side of the manhole. Whatever. Straddle over the the drop underneath in order to gain leverage to slide the lid/grate aside toward the lifted end... It goes... and hits something solid. I just pushed it into the building I'm next to, and it's not even halfway open. The adrenaline was already flowing, but now it builds to something close to a panic.

If there were any cars, I couldn't see them, because I was in tunnel-vision mode. Roll the lid/grate on its edge away from the manhole... stable? Now stable. But I'm on the wrong side of the hole. I'm not on the ladder side. I'm straddled over the 3.5ft hole about 3-4 feet below the sidewalk, over 15-or-so feet of air and a bad landing onto a ladder on the wrong side. But I can do this. I've clawed out to bad top-outs on rock, so a sidewalk shouldn't be bad, right?

So the top of me is sprawled out across the sidewalk, arms fully stretched and fingers clawing at a crack to just pull myself out, brute-force style.

Old dude with a rolling suitcase comes strolling around the corner. We meet eyes. He steps around my arms.

What else was there to say but, "mornin'?"

"Mornin'," he returns.

Three more steps... he pivots around and chuckles, "this is the first time I've said mornin' to somebody coming out of the ground."

"Indeed," was the best I could mutter out.

He continues on his way. I couldn't decide whether it was appropriate to freak, to smirk, to bang my head against the sidewalk... oh right, sidewalk. Probably good to get off this sidewalk.

Oh man, just last night I attempted to get into this fairly high security location. It was fairly dark when I started and getting through 2 layers of barrier and fence, and crawling through all the foliate took a while it got completely dark by the time I got through the inner fence. I was there flat on my belly, just peaking out of the bushes, and I saw the security office far to my right. To my left was a van parked in middle of a clearing, seeming unoccupied(it was completely dark inside). I took my chance and just ran across the clearing to the building, and then suddenly the car turned on and drove towards me slowly. My first reaction was just "F************CK", but I as the van got closer the weed smell filled the air around me. The guy was a security guard on break or something, and was totally stoned when he rolled down the window.
A short little conversation happened between us, and he was a fairly friendly dude and let me out the same way I came in.

Me and one of my explorer buddies always do the whole "what year is it?" when popping out of a drain or manhole. Got some pretty interesting reactions from some stoners once.

When we got back to the tunnel entrance, Greg went up to the top of the ridge to serve as a lookout while we put the entryway back to its original condition. This completed, we prepared to head back to the cover of the woods. It was snowing pretty heavily, and we were optimistic; it would even cover our tracks for us. We'd pulled it off perfectly. Heh.

I was right behind Greg, and heard him when he gasped; "oh shit!" "Look over there," he whispered to me. To our right, lurking behind some trees at the edge of the road with its lights off, was a Ford Security SUV. It was right next to us, and the engine was idling. There was nothing nearby except for the tunnel entrance, so we knew it was no coincidence. We were fucked.

"Should we run?" "Yes!" "We're going to run?" "Let's do it." "We're running?" "Go!" We came up out of the woods running through the snow like madmen, and I am sad to say I abandoned poor Bugs the rabbit skeleton in my haste to escape.

I saw the headlight come on, and heard the truck come after us. I did, I swear … but only in my adrenaline-soaked imagination. We made it all the way across the road and behind the plant and into the woods and down the bluff on our asses and along the river, and no one came for us, no one yelled out, nothing. The truck hadn't moved.

Someone suggested that whoever it was had just called the police on their radio when we came out, and as we trudged through the snowy woods back toward where we'd left the cars, we ran over our options for cop evasion. We also discussed what we'd seen of the truck, and we all agreed it had an inch of fluffy snow on it, indicating it had sat at the tunnel entrance idling for at least an hour or two. We could not recall with any certainty if the windshield had also been covered with snow, which would make a difference in evaluating the situation.

As it turned out, no police were waiting for us back at the car, and we made it to the car alive and unapprehended. At Perkins afterward (we found one still open 24 hours!), we reviewed what had happened. Clearly, the truck was there due to us; there was nothing else around. We had no way of knowing, however, if they had actually seen us going in, or if they had just seen that the tunnel entrance door was open.

Where had the security guys been, though? Weighing the evidence, three options seem possible:

1) They had gone into the tunnels after us and missed us while we were infiltrating the assembly and hydro plants

2) There had been a guy in the truck waiting for us to pop out, and he'd fallen asleep or something while we were in there for hours

3) The combo platter: they'd sent one or more guys in after us and left one out in the idling truck, who had fallen asleep or otherwise missed it somehow when we ran away into the snowy night like bats outta hell.

I personally think #2 is most likely, but no matter what, it is hilarious. You see, putting the entry back to its original condition included taking steps that make it impossible for anyone to get back out the door from the inside. So if anyone had been in there looking for us, they would have to go all the way through the Hydro plant to get back out again.

Even if no one had been after us inside, the poor guy in the truck would feel like quite the idiot when he realized that someone, somehow, had replaced all the shit on the doorway and vanished without him seeing a single thing. No matter exactly what happened, one thing seems reasonably certain, and that is that there are some very, very pissed off and confused Ford security guards wondering how the hell we escaped. They must know that somewhere out there, somehow, someone is laughing at them.

it was my second official explore as a member of uer, it was the outlet mall at tx 121 and 75 north od dallas. Onsatu and i were in there for hours. we walked the entire place and drank a 6 pack of bud. as we were making our way out thru the 4' x 4' hole in the plywood, there was a cop. leaning up against the post watching. we made it out, dusted off and bam! he was no more than 10 feet away in plane site and we didnt see him till it was too late.

we did get a stern talking to about the dangers and were warned and let off.

I was in a train tunnel once and though I could see the end of the tunnel

Then the world sounded like it was going to end and I ditched into a side tunnel as a slow moving freight train went past blowing it's horn

I had to get the respirator on because of the amount of dust thrown up and almost shat myself

On our way to a certain major Toronto location, me and a few guys from the meet were stopped by two security guards from across the street. We feared they knew what we were up to as they ran up to us, seeing as how there was no reason for us walking towards the backside of the building in the dark. They came up to us and asked us for marijuana (or papers or a lighter or something.) Guess we were the only young guys they had seen all night and couldn't miss the opportunity to ask.

While inside another big location for a Toronto meet, with a bunch of friends exploring for the first time, one of them made the mistake of poking their head out the window or maybe up on the roof where we saw a police cruiser had pulled up next to the guard shack below. We all made our way out in a hurry. Heading down the stairs we heard footsteps, and I poked my head out of the staircase enough to see two guards walking around with flashlights. They were definitely looking for us. Not wanting to go out the way we came in, as we feared a cop would be facing the POE, we opted to jump a tall razor wire fence, cutting our hands a bit, to get out of the property and onto property of an active facility next door. To get out of there, some of us jumped a gate while I jumped a barbed wire fence that had so much overgrowth on the other side that all I could do was faceplant through the bushes till I landed on the ground. Now, with cuts and bruises and an aching back from that last jump, we cut across the street and made for the car, all laughing at how the guards and cops were still looking for us.
Except later on I found out the police cruiser was just parked there because the building was on route for the waterfront marathon, that needed security. So those two guards were probably the only ones looking for us, and they were inside, meaning the alternate and painful way out was probably unnecessary.

I was just reminded of a couple more.

First, not me but a friend was scouting out some abandoned factories out of town. A black car was driving down the street, and when the occupants saw him they parked, got out, and ran over to him. He was thinking it was security going after him early. Turns out it was Korean Jehovah's Witnesses.

Another time, I was in this otherwise nondescript factory district with my ex-wife. We went in one building which was maybe six storeys tall and had a fairly narrow base, one room per floor. We kept hearing smashing sounds on the ground below us but that wasn't too strange for the area.

At one point we were in one level and an elderly scrapper walked in on us. He wasn't paricularly authorised to be there too, but he asked what we were doing and when my ex-wife explained, he looked at me and my camera and said "Oh no, I feel so embarrassed for my country!" This old guy collecting scrap metal was only concerned that some foreigner was getting pictures of a part of his country that isn't glamorous.

Interesting reaction which I've encountered many times.
