Hashima is a tourist attraction in these days, just like Pripyat.

Isn't Weburbanist one of those sites that steals pics from other websites like UER?

The island reminded me of the tower blocks in Hong Kong, with the exposed drainpipes running down the side of the concrete buildings and the hodgepodge of styles crammed next to each other. You don't see that in Japan with newer buildings. It seems many Asian nations equated concrete with "modern" in their haste to develop. Left many soulless (albeit interesting) structures behind.

As far as villain hideouts go, I'd take Thunderball any day.

Sadly the idea of concrete buildings as modernity has been replaced with the less aesthetic idea of glass buildings as modernity.

Having finally seen Skyfall (the week after it left theatres; damn you sparkly vampires!), I'd say it's pretty obvious the room where the villain is introduced with the working elevator is off-island, and I'm sure the collapsed statue is also a prop. I wonder if they left it behind though.

Just going by what I've read online (I haven't seen the movie yet, I really need to catch up on the past few Bond films before I see it), the interiors were done off-island, which makes sense. No need to have a whole crew on a remote island when you can recreate it somewhere more accessible.

The island interiors were likely done not far from Japan, North London, UK to be precise. I was more interested in the metro scenes, done in the disused part of Charing cross metro station, London (Same as the film 'Creep'). All the metro stuff was shot there, including one bit where they get into the actual vent shaft. The large underground area where the tube train comes through is the enormous 007 stage at Pinewood studios. Sadly it doesn't exist in reality
