I was thinking more of stealing a 737 from BCIT. installing floats on the fuselage and flying there

What one could do is... Go to Canadian tire, purchase the cheapest dingy they have (19.99) and paddle, use said dingy and paddle, keep the receipt, then return said dingy and paddle the next day. Make sure you have a safety rope to tow in your buddy who is intrepid in most all aspects (dogyears) except when it comes to figuring out how to paddle a dingy.

Crocodile flotilla?

Where is the Mcbarge located? I'd love to explore that. I could take 4-6 people if it's a one day trip, 3-4 if it's an overnight and people want to sleep aboard. Depending on the day another friend wants to come along, he could carry a couple more at least, and has a spare bunk in his boat.

I found this thread, a list of decommissioned ferries and where they end up, maybe worth keeping an eye on in case they post something interesting.

Keep the dingy, everyone needs a dingy.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

I actually did get on the old Saanich before they moved her from Anvil Island down to the scrap heaps in Mexico. I'll toss up some photos when I have time...

Apparently I have time right now. Who'd've thunk it... NOTE: These photos were taken in 2012... they ain't new.

Us coming up on the old Saanich:

The bow was adorned with some 'pretty' graffiti:

The cavernous car deck called out to us...

The old cafeteria had been pretty well-ransacked prior to our arrival:

The Chief Steward's office:

The former buffet in the upper deck aft-end lounge; the buffet didn't operate for the ship's last few years in service.

A mural featuring the ship sailing near Active Pass

Outside, looking aft on the starboard side:

Looking up at the funnel:

Some hooligan managed to drop the lifeboat down onto the barge alongside the ship...

Note the creepy smile...

Up in the wheelhouse:

Most of the instruments were gone by the time we got to it:

The starboard bridge wing:

On the bridge wing looking into the wheelhouse:

I opened up the bridge wing control box for a peek... all intact!

Looking down at the bow.... land ho'!

I love the contrast of the big white ship against the steep green mountainsides:

The funnel. Sadly, the whistles'd been taken

The funnel from abaft:

Looking down on Monkey's Island and the bridge.

One last shot, looking aft in the forward lounge:

It was a great little trip. Sort of sad to see the old gal go, I'd ridden her to and from the island countless times while she was in operation... times change, I guess.

Going......
Going...
Gone.

Fine day it was. Midday in July or August, if my memory serves me right. Spent the trip back with feet hanging off the bow of the boat in the warm ocean spray.

Cool, thanks for posting those. Like the bridge shots, and neat to see the different passenger deck layouts.

I recall hearing of this fateful voyage...

I believe there was some issues with the dingy on the way back and someone got quite wet...
