What is Full Membership?
Basically, it's part of a trust system established to screen new members and keep the bad ones out.
It creates a tier above basic membership where UER members can engage in somewhat more private conversation. Full Member Status allows you to view and contribute to the more private areas of this website. Do I need to buy Full Membership?
Full Membership does not cost any money, and is completely separate from the donations system on UER. Many Full Members have never donated to the site, but were able to gain Full Member status. Likewise, donating to the site as a Basic Member has no impact on you obtaining Full Member status. What do I get out of it?
-First, you receive the Trusted mark from UER, which earns you a bit more trust from other UER members.
-You will receive full access to UER boards such as Other, and you can see private threads.
-You will get full access to the UER Location Database. Basic members can only see locations that are marked publicly viewable and/or demolished. Full members see all, and they may make changes or additions to the LDB.
-You can recommend others for full membership.
-And most important of all, you get this little star on your account. What are the requirements for full membership?
These are often listed as the requirements for full membership:
-You must be a member for at least 3 months
-You should have explored or met with other UER members
-It really helps if any of those members are UER moderators or well-known members.
-You should have a decent post count, let's say above 50.
-You should actively contribute to the forums and be a positive presence.
-It really helps if you share photos of exploring.
-You should have a positive attitude when interacting with other members. All of those things? But
a) I haven't been a member for three months yet. Can't you make an exception?
b) I'm the only UER member in my region, so I can't meet other members, let alone moderators.
c) My post count is too low.
d) I explore a lot but don't take photos.
e) Other people on the site don't like me so it's hard to have a positive attitude.
a) You probably will have to be patient. Do you have a good reason for wanting to get in quicker? It better be exceptionally good.
b) That's fine. Provided we can establish your credibility otherwise, we're sometimes willing to take a chance if you're the first, let's say Ukrainian, or Inuit, or Korean member we've seen. If there are no other members in your area and we can establish beyond a reasonable doubt that you are where you say you are, there's really no security risk on our side.
c) You should probably work on that, but we might make an exception if English (or French) isn't your first language. Then again, if that's the case you probably aren't reading this FAQ.
d) A lot of very experienced urban explorers aren't photographers. However, it will be an uphill battle, since the photographs in an applicant's post history are used to gauge a lot of things about the applicant in lieu of personal recommendations. Scraping together a couple photo posts would help your case; a few lousy ones would be better than none at all ever. I mean these days everyone has a camera in their phone, so how hard can it be?
e) We're going to be looking very closely at exactly why
they don't like you. They could just be hazing you, or maybe there's a legitimate reason they don't like you. Your application will be judged by UER's full members, so what they think of you does matter. I've been a basic member for years, but never really contributed much before. Don't I deserve full membership?
No, actually those sorts of accounts that were opened in 2004 and have six posts to them really set off warning bells in us. I'm a really really good photographer. Do I receive special treatment?
You really shouldn't, but yes, you probably will get more positive recommendations from people you don't know if you post some really good photos. My significant other/good friend is a Full Member. Shouldn't I get in the door?
Probably, but keep in mind that along with trustworthiness, we're also looking for people who can contribute to the forums. So if you have a really low post count, that might not be enough.
You should ask that person to recommend you for Full Membership first. I haven't contributed yet because I'm waiting for Full Membership so I can share all my great photos and the locations I know.
Your Full Membership application will be judged based on your activities as a Basic Member, so if you have a zero post count, don't get your hopes up. If you haven't contributed already, we don't have confidence you'll start once you've received Full Membership.
Besides, there's a good enough chance we already know what locations you're thinking about, and you just can't see our stuff yet. I'm not an urban explorer; I'm just here because I like the photos. What about me?
There's no real reason for you to have Full Membership. Who is not welcome to apply for Full Membership?
-Vandals, graffiti artists, taggers, scrappers, arsonists, undercover cops looking to bust local explorers
-Trolls and post whores who go off topic, start flame wars, or inflate their post counts with lots of replies that are low on content
-Complainers who feel entitled to Full Membership and let their feelings known publicly
-People who don't follow the rules, such as the one about not posting entry details to locations Someone has recommended me for Full Membership. What does that mean?
We get these all the time. They hit a button on your profile page and wrote us a note saying why they think you deserve it. Now it's up to you to finish your application, which will start off with one positive recommendation.
If you feel that you aren't ready for it yet (haven't been here long enough, don't know anyone, haven't made enough posts), you might get denied, but we won't hold it against you. What should I know about writing the application?
-You should describe why you feel you deserve Full Membership, the extent of your exploring experience, websites you've created, and anything else you can think of.
-Expect us to skim it, so keep it brief. We don't need to know your life story.
-If you name a UER member in your application, we will check to see if that member backs up your claim.
-Be respectful of the process. We won't appreciate your arrogance or your refusal to take it seriously. It gives me the option to select a specific moderator to process the request. When should I do that?
Only use this option if you personally know one of the moderators, or one is one in your region.
Do not select a random moderator, because there are some who don't pay attention to the requests and there are some who aren't active anymore. If you select Moderator C, Moderators A and B will not process your request.
Basically, it will probably take less time if you don't select a moderator. Moderator A hates me, so can I request Moderator B review my application without having to worry about Moderator A?
No. We all can see the queue and communicate with each other. What happens after I submit my Full Membership request?
It will go into a queue along with all other requests, where it will sit for at least seven days during which time moderators have full access to your application.
Also, Full Members have access to the accounts of applicants so they can see your post count and leave positive or negative recommendations.
Eventually, a moderator will make a ruling one way or the other on your application. Why is there a seven-day wait?
Simply to allow time for positive and negative recommendations to accumulate. Also to give you a chance to contribute more to make yourself look better. How do recommendations and strikes work?
We ask for positive recommendations from people who know you personally. A positive recommendation from someone who hasn't met you but admires your work is less important, but better than nothing. If you've talked with someone online in private messages or in chat, they might be able to vouch partially for your character.
However, a negative strike from someone who hasn't met you could harm your chances. Can I see what people wrote about me in recommendations or strikes?
To the best of my knowledge, no. Can I solicit people for recommendations?
I'd recommend you not ask publicly, but instead by private message (or just real life). I applied for Full Membership over a week ago! How long does it take?
Depending on our backlog, it could take up to two months. Please be patient. You will receive a message once you are denied or accepted. What does it mean if my application is denied?
It means whatever we tell you in a feedback message, most often that you haven't been around long enough or posted enough, and we want to get to know you before we let you in the door.
Most of the time a rejection is not personal, and you are fully invited to re-apply.
Follow our advice and apply again at a later date, and your chances will significantly improve. I used to have Full Membership, but had it taken away. Can I re-apply?
Yes, if enough time has passed, depending on your original offence, you're welcome to re-apply. We'll see what everyone thinks about letting you back in. To request full membership:click here To recommend a user for full membership:
