I got into this place a few weeks ago, but i was allowed to go on in with a firend of mine. We did some talking to the guys who were working on the building and they let us go in a check it out for ourselves.

possibly if you can do some good talking they might let YOU in, check it out

i've been in the lyric/century theater...a few years back, but very kewl.

the front part on mary street has rooms upstairs, similar to the listerblock.
the only way up there is thru a hidden door cleverly disguised inside a closet.

2nd floor has the projection room, a couple offices, more rooms.

main floor has the ticket booth , some washrooms, lobby , main room ..etc.

if you go into the main room where the movies were shown, backstage (walnut side) is an orchestra pit, huge back-drop panels, catwalk and other assorted theatrical stuff left over from the vaudeville days.

above the main room is a drop (panel) ceiling,
which is hidding an old balcony from the Lyric theatre days
(mary street end of the building using yet another hidden door to access it)
once there you'll find a giganticly long vertical old wooden ladder that extends to the roof...lots of pigeons/dung.

the back end of the basement has the old dressing rooms for stage actors, dirt floors, old movie film containers and the oldest/largest furnace i have ever seen.

the front part of the basement was paved with cement / pillars for supporting all the people above watching the movies.

wish i had pix to show you guys.

We got into the part with the offices and things at the Mary St. entrance, but we couldn't find our way any father through the place (to the seating area and stage). We could only look out into the area behind the stage from what I assume is the projection room (though it wouldn't make any sense to be there)

PS. You should have been there for Saturday, you missed a lot.

great place to visit if you get the chance

most of the place's artifacts are gone, sadly (old theater/vaudville stuff)
there was remnants of the Century theater tho (famous players i think)

alot of stuff was removed for the dance club conversion that never happened..
something about the prev owner's not leveling the floor (or something)
deal breaker i guess, that and stress testing of the main floor was another issue.

mary street side was the main office (century era), the only window on the 2nd floor i think.
the opposite back end of the building would have been more living quarters (lyric era)..for stage staff/handyman kinda thing , which looks into the backstage area ,basically street level ...i once saw some old backdrops hoisted way up the air backstage, and old wooden catwalks ..be nice if all that was intact still..

a great history lesson in there ..if you can find a proper tour guide to fill you in

Yes, the old catwalks are still back there. For the most part, the building still resembles a theatre pretty well... a cinema more than anything though. Its very awe-inspiring to sit in the main theatre and look around. Very beautiful.

I hope something is done about this building... its the last one of its era in Hamilton since the demise of the Tivoli. Sadly, it will most likely meet the same fate... as it is already in the advanced stages of architectural stress. You can see it in the roof and in parts of the basement.
