I know it is not standard to post non-photographic images in the UE DB, but this is directly related the the former San Jose FMC location so I decided to share:

It was recently discovered that my dad worked on and off at FMC in the illustration/design department from the late '60s to about 1985. The ads below are scanned straight from his portfolio. (It seems doubtful that these would be floating around anywhere public so I decided to share them here for anyone who may be interested in the historical value, as I am.) These images are from about 1968-1972 though he went back and worked on some technical illustrations of parts for machine guns and personnel carriers, etc later on.

A wide variety of armored personnel carriers, such as the Lynx, were manufactured by FMC for use during the Vietnam War.

My dad did a similar pamphlet design for the FMC in Charleston, West Virginia. It is my understanding that all of this type of manufacturing eventually moved over to West Virginia permanently, not sure what year.

I think that an "amphibious" variant of the M113 actually had a test run in Morgan Hill's Anderson Reservoir sometime in the late '70s. The carrier sank and killed fifteen FMC employees. I would love to see an actual news article about this if I can ever get my hands on one.

I'm a little clueless about these. There are two ads here and one if for a machine that ties up burlap sacks, the other is an unknown. These were from a time when FMC was selling to some businesses in South America. (Same period as the armored personnel carriers, just shows how varied FMC's production was.)

FMC must've been a fucking monster in the late 60's-early 70's... at the bottom of the chip silos at work, we have these huge cones with table feeders at the bottom and they are built by FMC/Link-Belt... When I worked at an injection molding plant back in the late 90's, we had a huge machine that made hose menders and that was built by FMC.

FMC was a huge monster; and had the oddest collection of products. I don't think there will be another company that sells APCs, food processing equipment, insecticide sprayers, lawn mowers, industrial chemicals, and airport equipment ever again.

FMC is still around; they spun off the Defense division as United Defense which BAE Systems bought (And is WHY there is a BAE Systems office in San Jose.) What is pretty much left heritage wise is the chemical/agriculture stuff.
