it's been closed for a long time now... My aunt and uncle live on Route 9 in North Hudson. Ironically, while it was open, I never visited it.

You too, eh? Might not have been my first trip out of Canada, but it was one of them, and I was around 5 then too. When did you go there?

If you guys have pictures from when the place was still active I would love to see them so I have something to compare it to when we go. That won't be until it warms up a little (at least above freezing) because Bizzybear doesn't like the cold. I enjoy hibernating in the winter, you know sitting on the couch and eating.

So we went to Frontier Town (it was actually forty five degrees and I was able to come out of hibernation). Can someone who went there (Ferret/PhoBac97/anyone) tell me what the purpose of the place was? What was there to do there? We saw some buildings in the woods but didn't go near them (the snow was drifting and I was waist deep in it). Are there more buildings/attractions that I can't see? Anything along the train tracks? I guess I don't see the appeal. Mabye for families with children, just not my kind of place I guess (when it was active, that is).

Unfortunately, Bizzy, the place was really on the skids from the early 1980's on. I remember alot of my friends working out there as "cowboys", "bandits" and such. It was really cheeseball then. They had horses, real cowboys and Indians, but that was about it. I suppose the high point of the attraction was the light rail line that ran around the property.

The place gets me though when I drive by it, kinda of the same way "The Land Of Makebelieve" does up in Jay. These were the small roadside attractions that dotted the landscape all through the golden age of the car. I drove by there tonight after I got done work at 11 (Port Henry is only 14 miles from there) and even in the moonlight, I get a feeling of sadness out there. Maybe a feeling of time?

There used to be ads on TV for the place promoting a train robbery, a wild west show and real cowboys... yeehaw.

I don't know why my parents brought me there. Maybe because i'd like cowboys and horses. It was a cowboy village with horses and indians. I remember having a sheriff star and i was so proud of it and I also remember the train robbery and the barber shop. The barber faked about cutting my face. I was so impressed! It sure was a place for families.

I remember most of the attractions being in the woods, a mock gunfight, the train robbery, and a fake mine that you couldn't enter (I think you got a picture of that). I'll have to dig through some of the old family vacation photos to see if I can find any pics of this place. It was around 1968 when I was there, and I was only 4 at the time, so my memories aren't the best of the place. In fact, I had completely forgotten about it until now!

i have to get out some old video tapes, with the frontier town jingle., The Great American Adventure! i remember when i was a kid it was either frontier town or story town (lake george) that our parents took us to. Story town was saved a similar fate when bought out by six flags and turned into the Great Escape Fun Park. Man oh man, sad to see whats happened to this place
