It was a tour, sadly. But, I would definetly think twice about going into a nuclear power plant that stores old urainum that has radiation in it. They'll probably think i'm a terrorist going in there and all. Yes, this is for real. The aerial view pics aren't mine, as you can probably tell.

I live about 4 miles from Watts Bar Nuclear One in Rhea County, TN back in 2000. At the site, there is a hydroelectric dam with locks, coal plant and the nuclear plant. After work, we'd sit on the other side of the river from the nuke plant and watch the barges go through the lock. TVA security was very tight. I don't think that anyone could get within 1000ft of a nuke plant without getting caught. And then when they are caught, they'll think you're a terrorist or something.
It was just me, but i used to get creeped out by the TVA cops roaming around all the time...

The Tennessee River is pretty big... especially just north of Chattanooga. Down below Watts Bar maybe 20 miles was another nuclear plant, Sequoya (sp?) outside of Soddy-Daisy.

Considering it's a river used to power hydro-electric dams, I'd say about 200-300 feet wide, and about a few miles long.

actually, at some points, the Tennessee River is over 1000ft across and if I remember right, it runs for a couple of hundred miles. Alot of it has been engineered by either the TVA or the Army Corps Of Engineers.

I went water skiing on the River out in front of Browns Ferry Nuclear Power in Huntsville, Alabama, and let me tell you, for all this anti-terrorism B.S., they didn't mind us getting within 50 feet of the shore....

Is Browns even active? Or am I thinking of the one outside of Hollywood AL? One of them never even got fired up and has no materials in it at all...

you're thinking of Bellefonte. that plant was about 90% done when they scrapped it, it's still sitting there.. I think it is going to become the site of one of the first new reactors to be built, as it already has brand new turbines sitting around.

Brown's Ferry had one of it's three reactors shut down 25 years ago because of a fire behind the control room. some moron was checking for air leaks with a candle, and set all the wiring between the controls & the reactor on fire while it was running.. but they still managed to shut it down safely. I think they're finally starting it back up this year or the next.
