The creator of the "From The Web" gallery claims that Gatlinburg Xanadu is still standing, but covered in wood siding. This is incorrect; read this page for more info:

Most likely, either the "Rock Shop", "Sugarland Wedding Chapel", or a carpark are currently standing on the property once occupied by Gatlinburg Xanadu. Shame, I'd have liked to have seen it...

I thought I stated in here that I found that it does not stand ne more. O well, you are right, it was in the parking lot of what is now sugarlands chappel. I misstook a house on Ski Mnt. Rd. as what was Xanadu because of rumor and it does have a similar shape albiet in wood. But just to ease up on the confusion I have seemingly caused, Gatlinburg Xanadu IS gone and has been since the late 80's.

I've been feeling funny since I went in that open crypt. Not sure what it is.

The Gatlinburg Xanadu is no more, and has been no more for many years - since about 1990. Hub and I were there for a weekend while it was being torn down. What an unholy mess! White stuff everywhere! They built a structure on it that was at first "The Trolley Stop" gift shop, and now is a wedding chapel. As of my last visit there (2007) the Rock Shop is still in the same place it's been for at least the last 40 years. (I have some old post cards if anyone is interested.)

Also, one thing that you don't address here is the fact that these houses were advertisements for "home systems". My mom was really into weird building techniques in the 70's, and was really excited about going there. Somewhere she has all the old "home system" literature - can you believe they would come to your lot and actually build one for you? If it had been my mom's way there would have been one in rural Henderson County, Tennessee, too.
