Invading Area 51 ?!?!

So there's an event on Facebook that claims they are going to gather up enough people to overwhelm the security staff at Area 51.

Facebook link: https://www.facebo...s/448435052621047/

So it is pretty obvious that this is a gimmick that someone wanted to troll Facebook folks with. And it worked. Reading through the comments, it appears that some people actually think that they will be able to make it into Area 51. I predict the whole thing will fizzle before it ever gets started, but there might be a few crazies who try. In my years living in Vegas, I've known a couple of the "cammo guys", and others who have worked up at 51 or other sites out on range.

The down side to pranks like this is that the military has to take it somewhat seriously. That's going to mean that they will have extra people out on patrol. The area all around 51 is wired with all kinds of electronic detectors. I'm guessing they will also have drones flying out of Creech just to keep an eye on things. I doubt anything will come of it, but it could make for some humorous news coverage.

If that is IF they make it inside the perimeter, they will be arrested and or shot. This is a pretty bad joke somebody is playing.

That being said I always thought it could be done IF, youre willing to scout and low crawl a long way and hide off and on and move real slow for a couple days but without knowledge of where all the sensors are even crawling will trigger them. We use the same type sensors on some parts of the Mexican border now.

Besides there nothing to see in there...

Not so, the pink mist of the entity known as Lord Rick is said to reside there from when he was vaporized by a landmine years ago

People have gotten in there, but were never heard from again.

I'm not sure that even a slow crawl would work. It's nearly impossible to hide your thermal image and they monitor that as well. Creech AFB is just north of Vegas and a major drone training and operations base. I would be very surprised if part of their mission was not security surveillance of sensitive areas of the range. I have no inside information on that, but it just makes sense.

If you could somehow teleport yourself to the middle of the base, really the only thing you might see are some pretty cool developmental aircraft. Or maybe some specialized land vehicles being tested. Obviously everyone who goes up there has a security clearance. It is at least Secret, but I think it's Top Secret or above for those areas up at the test site. The Janet aircraft fly up there multiple times a day transporting military and civilian contractors. Some of those civilian contractors are mechanics, plumbers, electricians, and food service people. So even though everyone has security clearance, any really super-secret stuff wouldn't be just sitting around outside. The military takes their security very seriously.

A couple of years ago I was on a tour at Davis Monthan AFB and there was a Janet 737 sitting on the tarmac. I asked my friend, "What's a Janet 737 doing down here?". I thought the tour guide's head was going to snap off his shoulders as looked over at us and asked, "How do you know about that?!". It's one of the worst kept 'secrets' of all times.

I think you'd have to be pretty stupid to try to invade an active military base.

You can pretty rest assured they have a state of the art smart cam network that likely has FLIR cams integrated into it.
Along with all the other sensors including ground radar, armed patrols equipped with night vision and/or FLIR and... & Reaper drones loitering out of sight, your sight that is.

My guess is it's one of the most secured sites anywhere.
Antipersonnel devices aren't out of the question once you go deeper into its perimeter.

Plenty times I've heard this and plenty times somebody responded, "hold my beer"... to varying degrees of success/failure. So "stupid" might not be the right descriptor. But "stupid" does certainly apply to the means/target referenced in this thread.

It's all a function of the degree of will the defender perceives to exist from would-be infiltrators, and how much resources the defenders can expend to defeat the would-be infiltrators. With glake, both are pegged to the end of their respective meters.

This obviously a joke. The security will be on you like a cheap suit. There was a place on public land where you could see the base. Somewhere in the early 1990s they pushed out the boundary and it's no longer public land.

The security at Groom Lake is handled by a civilian contractor. It used to be EG&G, but I can't say who does it now. Probably either URS or AECOM.

The perimeter is in layers. The outer layer is on public land and it's perfectly legal to be there, but you are (quite literally) on their radar.

Or have an escort.

It mostly depends on what's going on at the time of your visit.

That's not as weird as you think. JANET aircraft show up at the darnedest places. They even show up in Hawaii from time to time.

Maybe there's at least a few people who are actually considering going, but since the "event" description mentions "naruto running so the bullets can't catch them" (the anime/ninja run with your arms behind your back) I think most are there for the joke.

It'd actually be interesting to see if anyone goes and what comes out of it. If it somehow were a reasonable amount of people (so many that arresting them all wouldn't be viable) would they really just gun them down? Or threaten them with violence?

Note that this is coming from someone who lives in a place where the police are friendly and sometimes don't even carry guns. And where 250,000 people is 5% of the whole country's population. It's a strange world.

Its nearly impossible to keep all warm blooded organisms off the base too, I reckon if they have any coyotes or stray donkeys out there for example they might have a "thermal image".

You would be surprised at what some people can do, in another thread I related a story of a, guy, I know that spent 8hrs crawling to reach a, target. Long story long crawl.

Yeps, Id never do that, everyone knows Im not stupid. But it depends on what you mean by the word "invade". Are we talking Normandy beaches on D-Day or just a harmless little infiltration to shoot some artsy fartsy photographs?
