Upon initially cracking open a bedroom door in this remote Ontario farmhouse, I was sure that I had finally found a human corpse. The wall of death stench that hit was so putrid and thick that I really expected to see a person-sized lump under the bedspread. The true source was surprisingly much smaller, but packed a tremendous wallop of rotting July odor.

This farmhouse was an interesting find that FOS and I made late in the summer. Far off from the road, the house showed heavy decay but no signs of vandalism. It had just reached that point of broken entryways and easy access to allow local wildlife to take up residence. With nobody visiting in quite some time, the living room had become a safe refuge for a pair of nesting eastern phoebes. This was the 4th time this summer that I encountered this particular species nesting inside abandonments north of Toronto. It was a neat little example of nature's serendipity that life was beginning on the ground floor while the turkey vulture met its untimely death upstairs.

the fact that you said "finally found a human corpse" made my day.

Is this reality or my memory getting mileage? Am I staring at the sun or blood vessels in my eyelids

That vulture had to smell worse than it looked...
The phoebes get upset with your presence?
Spirograph? Nice.
Wonder what happened to the occupants?

Holy good thing smelling isn't part of the photo experience !!

That spirograph is the good old vintage variety, when it used to come with pins that had coloured heads on them...good for poking your siblings and making them cry

I love # 11 and # 20 !! Dayum good shots !!

Thanks for the share

Great shots, and wow - did that Spirograph take me back to my childhood days where simple things like this (as well as Pen-dul-art and Twirl-O-Paint) could entertain us for hours! Thankfully, my childhood did not include a dead turkey vulture ;)

Amazing that you caught that shot of the bird on the broken glass.

I was standing right underneath its nest, so it was caught in that fight-or-flight moment, literally.
