I am not sure where Lion Country Safari came from. This park used to be called International Wildlife Park up until 1989. I worked at this park briefly when I was a teenager.

A little history on this park and what happened: This park was supposed to resemble the same type of park that was in California of the same name. It was basically like a large zoo but had rides like an amusement park and was more interactive with the animals.

In 1989, the DFW area had one of the worst torrential rain seasons in history. The Trinity river and many other rivers overflowed and caused massive flooding. Many homes and businesses didn't have a chance and quite a few people were killed.

For the International Wildlife park, there was tremendous devastation. The park was located right on the Trinity river which caused the entire park to become flooded and eventually submerged under 10-15 of water. Most, if not all, of the animals in the park perished. The park was a total loss.

This place was actually pretty cool in it's day. Too bad what happened.

There was a large amount of flooding in Texas overall during the recent flood this year. All properties around the Trinity river were flooded pretty bad which included the old park. There really is nothing left of the park anyway so not much of a change.

We just now started to come out ahead of the flooding. The city authorities had to start siphoning water out of the lakes and push them into the local rivers so the water would trickle down to the gulf. Things are looking better now, thankfully.
