Imbrex & Tegula State Hospital
< on 5/22/2017 2:14 PM >

I should have taken way more photos here, but it's such a massive place that a lot of our time was taken up just running from one point of interest to another, and even then we saw much less than half of what's still accessible. Everyone who goes here seems to gravitate towards the morgue, and rightfully so, but the highlight for me was the former operating theater with its upstairs observation gallery, which at some point in its life was closed off and filled with HVAC equipment. An unbelievable place, all around.

Mmm, such a nice location! Great work here, I'm not used to seeing such a place with no vandalism.

Love this spot. Great pictures. I missed a lot when I visited too, even though I spent almost a whole day there. The buildings are just so large. I never got to see the gallery even.

I kinda want to go back with some sledgehammers and rip out all of that HVAC so I can shoot that theater properly.

That old operating theater! Makes me sick they ruined it. I can only imagine what it use to look like. Thats a very cool shot regardless...and, makes me wonder what else is covered up waiting to be found and photographed

Nice job on this place. Glad you took the time to go to some of the other buildings there. So many people just go to the main attraction and then split, and there's LOTS more to see. Also glad you found that operating theater. IIRC, it's kind of tucked in the back of one of the buildings and is easy to miss. In fact, I would've missed it if AKBC, my exploring partner that day, hadn't come looking for me and dragged me up the steps to see it.

So... planning a return trip to see some of what you missed? 😉

Thanks, everyone!

Honestly the operating theater was one of the most unique things I've seen in an abandoned building so far. I couldn't find any photos of that particular room before the alteration, but I did manage to find these shots of a similar room in another building on the campus, just to give an idea of what it could have been like:

God yes. Especially the southern building on that square.

That sucks about the operating theater, you got some fantastic shots from this place though.

Looks like a very fun explore! 6 is my favorite because of the windows, open on the left side of the frame and sealed shut on the right. It's a nice visual contrast. Great set of pics!
