Abandonment Camping
< on 8/26/2016 5:36 PM >

So, has anyone ever spent the night in an abandonment? Me and my buddy stayed in an old root cellar we found in the woods. Mostly because we needed shelter from the wind and cold, it was -13° F that night. But I definitely want to try it again in a different site maybe!

I prefer Walmart parking lots.

There's a few places where I've spent a night after exploring.

1. Abandoned hotel resort (we had to work hard to bring electricity there)

2. After exploring a huge asbestos transformation factory, we stumbled upon a cabin in the woods which was under construction

3. Squatted on the stage of that theater in Belgium

Overnight camped up on this abandoned high school roof in between exploring the town. Brought the backpack gear and cooked our dinner and breakfast up there too.

There were some wings in the hotel which still had lighting, but the rooms were messy and dirty. So we found a suitable room that wasn't too moldy, searched for clean mattresses which escaped water damage, then we proceeded to find the main electrical room. We then fucked switched some fuses, redirected the juice to the right panel, and after 2 hours of fucking around we had electricity not too far from our room. Then with extension cords we managed to bring it inside the room. Found some bedside lamps, and voilà!

I remember my friend brought his laptop from the car, we watched The MAtrix that night

Yes, several times.

Electricity is a rare bonus. I even found clean bed sheets in a more recently vacated house once.

Does blacking-out drunk on a cement edifice on the roof of an insane asylum count? I didn't plan it out. I woke up at dawn to the sound of my own beer farts and had no idea what the fuck was happening, like why I was sleeping on a fucking cement slab. There were a few scattered remnants of the previous night's drink-a-thon blacked out and propped up in corners here and there but nobody I really knew. Luckily I lived across the street at the time and was able to crash in a real bed as soon as I staggered on home.

Here's the edifice, fondly known as "Champ's Couch". Rest in peace, Byberry.

Pretty common for mine explorers to camp underground. We were hiding from the snow storm outside.

Camped for a night on one of the screened porches at Norwich. My friend Lisa was going to spend the night at Foxwoods with her mother and grandmother, so I had them drop me off right in front of admin and then pick me up the next day. I ran onto campus and of course the door on the chapel was locked for the first time ever, so I had to run to the theater to get in.

Oh, many times. Banks with power still. Nuclear power plants. Hotels. More than squatting, I've taken a lot of naps at places too.
