Flashlights at Costco.

I was just at my local Costco and I picked up a two pack of Lightmates CREE LED tactical flashlights (160 lumen). They are made of aircraft aluminum and have high, low, strobe and SOS modes.

For both it was only $18.99 including 6 AAA batteries - really good deal IMO. I Just wanted to let anyone who needs a flash light know about them.

Are these the ones with the light-up "dead battery" tailcap? I've heard horror stories about them (2 seconds to light when you push the button, killing batteries in weeks on a shelf). The same or different light?

Nope, these are the same ones. Hopefully they're alright. I guess you get what you pay for...

Maybe Rob can chime in about how his have fared through his underground excursions. I'm curious. One of my flashlights just died but I was lucky to get a refund.

These ones are from the same manufacturer but they're a different model than the ones I bought last year. Mine were (from memory) single mode, AA and 109 lumens. They were fairly well constructed but the beam was far too tight for my needs. I think they were two for $24.99 but were on sale for $14.99 or something. Decent deal but I wouldn't buy those ones again. These ones look better (multimode) and since it's Costco you can use them, abuse them and return them with no questions asked.

BTW, these are available at the Canadian Costcos. The US stores have much more variety but not necessarily these ones.

I second that, its good for people who have empty hands and who don't take photographs. They are very robust!

Sure, if you don't mind more expensive, more weight, single mode and fewer lumens. On the plus side they are well constructed and the ones that use C and D cells make good weapons.

I already have a Rayovac Sportsman Xtreme™ 3C flashlight as well. It's also an amazing deal; Wal-Mart has them for $26.74. It's definitely brighter and better built than the Costco ones. I just grabed the two pack because it was a great deal and can you really have too many flashlights?

*edit: my spelling sucks today.

you sound like meta.

I was going to say that the d cell mags are pretty good, even ok for light-painting if need be. But if all you will be carrying is a maglite, who cares about the size? When you bag is filled with lights cameras, tripod, etc...smaller lights appeal way more.

Just picked up a pair at my (US) costco. Seam like a decent light. I do already see a few issues. No memory. Only 3 modes so no big deal. Touchy button. A wee bit lite to the touch for me. I could see it getting bumped in my pack & the batts just drain away. Needs lube on the threads. Feels like decent aluminum, regulated for even light output throughout the battery life & still small enough to stick in a pocket.

I am a Mag Man, but you can never have too many lights.

The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us?

Maybe it's just the US version, but:

CandlePowerForums page.

BrLux wrote:
I just picked up a set and put an amp meter in line to measure the parasitic draw. When I first install the batteries the red light stays on constant until I press the button and activate the light.

The initial red light after battery install is 3.6mA and then once the light is completely turned off it draws about .25mA which works out to be about 1mW of parasitic power being wasted 24-7 by the light.

Could depend on the version, but all electronic switches draw power. Usually not that much. And this was with the sucktastic one having a 2-second delay on the switch.

If it helps, I bought that same 2-pack of lights from Costco about 2 months ago. I use one a lot as I lurk around outside in the wee hours, the other sits at the ready next to a firearm, unused. I'm still on the original set of batteries with both, and both still light up just fine.
