Just got back from there..... ITS BEING RENO'D NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *ahem* Theres at least three people there now actively updating the houses. Counted 9 active vehicles (only one was able to verify current registration). Oddly too was three boats with Alberta registration. Wasn't able to get downtown due to an active bonfire/burnpile and vehicles driving about.

*edit* oh ya hastily taken pics added to its database entry

Iiiinteresting.

Looks like Krishnan has finally taken the initiative to start restoring the town. Word was that, despite the care taken to keep it in good shape, foundation issues were starting to develop and mold was starting to grow in the buildings.

Very interesting article about the town, from a few years ago, here:

I don't know about you guys...but I find these places to be a LOT more interesting when I know the story behind them.

Ya the basements were stripped on the houses we went too. What they were burning interests me, probably was just some BBQ.

What had they stripped from the basements? If they're removing siding and such, they're probably just burning it. It would be far easier to burn such a thing than it would be to ship it out of a remote location.

Drywall; bare concrete floor and the studs were exposed.

________________

Around May-ish last year while on pre-deployment leave, I impulse bought a Toyota 4Runner off Kijiji and went on a roadtrip with thegerm to check out Kitsault and hopefully a couple of other cool sites in BC. I figured I might as well do something cool before getting killed by a crappy Chinese rocket while driving an equally crappy and unreliable forklift.

Getting to Kitsault took two or three days, first night was spent on some FSR. This would turn out to be the only night we bothered with putting up the tent.

The last 80km or so to Kitsault is all gravel:

Between the two of us, we got it into our heads that the shoes had something to do with people committing suicide off of the bridge. Apparently it's some trucker tradition or something but I have yet to find anything to support that claim. We were hell bent on getting back over the bridge before the sun set, and just barely made it. The bridge looks awfully creepy at twilight.

Thanks to the caretakers, the buildings were in amazing condition.

One of the roads in the area:

Foundation:

Desperate for some sleep after going up and down a mountain and dodging a caretaker truck or two, I saw this place along an otherwise pitch black highway and decided that it would make a great overnight stop. Whatever, it's in the middle of nowhere, what's the chances of someone coming by anyways? Woke up the next morning to a huge Dodge truck parked at my feet. Oops.

As a result of driving a loaded 21 year old rustbucket vehicle over 80+km of potholes, the exhaust pipe sheared off:

First of many attempts to fix it:

Burned through it in a couple of minutes.

Tried Kamloops, didn't find anything in the couple of hours we spent there. Moving onto Vancouver.

Somewhere north of Lillooet:

Linked up with Team Leader and had an absolute blast:

I was so glad during our hurried exit that I had decent cardio.

Drove back to Edmonton the next morning.

I've read/researched Kitsault over the last few years on and off. I'd absolutely LOVE to create a Kitsault album on Haunted BC. Any chance any of you would/could offer some Kitsault pics for the album?

Those are pretty much all of the photographs I have of the place. Credit for the shots via UER name is fine, as I got rid of my Facebook account a while ago.

Ahh, good to see some reference to this incredible place, and not in a negative or exploitive way. Padova was it's name for only a short time, when renamed by a businessman who wanted to recreate something from Italy I believe. Must check again. The murals are cool and odd, but have no real relevance to the place. I only recall one large impressive one, and maybe one smaller.

The real history is as a tuberculosis clinic, and later sanatorium for what we all know happens there. There are rumors of scary lobotomies, and they may well be true. The Sage building is exceptionally solid, and a classic of 60's design. Looks like it could survive the apocalypse. I just hope it can survive developers fantasies that golf is the answer to everything. No offense, maybe they know something I don't.

Climbing the stairs of the Sage Building, alone, in broad daylight in summer, was a weird heavy experience. Haters gonna hate, but that place is not empty. Meaning, people who don't believe will think nothing is there, so be it. Just saying it's not a comfortable place.

I explored about 60% of the buildings, and most of the site. IMHO, it's the best of it's type in BC. That being, isolated single purpose town. I have not been to Kitsault, which is of course awesome, and exceptional in many ways.

There's a book on Tranquille, and older archived threads on here about it. A very special place, I hope all who go there are respectful.

Cheers, A.
