I happen to know it's raining in Victoria. Too bad, i wanted to head over there.....but as the rule states.."When it rains, no drains"! I hope they don't take the Janion down.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |

Agreed. But the land is worth some 1.2 million and the owner is a bitter old woman who hasn't touched it out of spite for the City of Victoria Council, so its in pretty bad shape apparently.

Ever since discovering this thread I have been fantasizing of tunnels! Many hours have been spent reading this thread and looking at archive photos, old fire insurance plans, imagining holes to unknown underground places where rarely people go.... *drools* Tunnels and sewers and drains, oh my! I found old city maps and sketched out where I think the tunnels run, and I wandered through town looking for possible entrance points, and I have a good idea where some of them are. I even bought my first pair of rubber boots, and a flashlight, so Im all prepared to go tunneling, except for the fact I have no experienced tunnel explorers to join me. Sure I have friends who would love to go exploring with me, but they have never done this before and would have to follow my lead, which could be dangerous.... Anyone out there willing to bring along a newbie tunnel lover? I would be entirely grateful and thrilled! Cheers, Melanie

To put it eloquently, I couldn't get my shit together in time I hadn't yet acquired the proper equipment. One shouldn't go wandering through such places in silly clunky boots with no flashlight. I'm sorry I missed the last trip, but the next time you decide to go exploring count me in for sure!

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this in the 101 pages, but shouldn't you be worried about H2S when venturing in these underground tunnels?

They took detectors down with them. Besides, we're from Vancouver Island. We're used to air of bad/smokey quality. ;)

This is the kind of stuff we talk about when researching potential locations, when pouring over maps and charts. We can usually count on one of us to bring up matters related to gas levels, tide levels, unexpected problems. This careful and deliberate planning is how we've managed to get into all the places we have UNDETECTED. It's how we managed to get out UNINJURED and ALIVE. It's how, over the course of three years as a dedicated team, we've managed to return to this site to post images and stories of what we've seen.

Does Tanuki like silly clunky boots, or forgets to bring a flashlight? ;) I have friends who have explored a short tunnel under Ross Bay Cemetary, and thankfully they came back alive and well, but back then I wasn't much into exploring so I never went with them. Are there many tunnels with dangerous gas? I wouldn't like getting stuck somewhere if the tide came in either...

Tanuki is a different kind of animal altogether. He's smarter than your average bear, and I trust him.

By the sounds of it, he's bigger than the average bear too. I have images of Predator picking up manhole covers...

Has anyone since seen the tunnel entrance in Ross Bay Cemetary? Disgraceful. RossBayCemetaryTunnel = Burned

How long ago did the tunnel get burnt? Is it still there, or is it inaccessible now?

I have just come to the end of this thread between months of studying and life management, and I must say I have been inspired to further progress in my own explorations (which have been mainly high above ground) but now gravitate below. While walking through town I have investigated posible entryways and the means/timing by which to safely infiltrate, but lack the appropriate company by which to do so. I have seen the door at 'the end of the line' and wish to explore that entry way and those like it. I have had many leads, but none that the GCG have not already been on top of. All the same, if anyone is up for a night of UEing I would be more than happy to help with the dirty work. If you are intereted let me know

BTB Kublakan I was impressed that you used the entriuge of the tunnels to touch upon the prominent social issue of homelessnes. Eventhough the two are interconnected you focussed upon the sociopolitical rather than the echant of the contretemps which "polute victoria" cheers man, keep the thread alive!
