| | | Old KMart site. I am hoping to go check it out sometime soon, and was wondering if anyone here has visited the place? Would anyone want to meet up for a quick look around? [last edit 1/18/2009 7:57 AM by Jort - edited 2 times]

If you wait just a little while longer, you have all those abandoned Circuit City stores to explore

| | | Kmart actually is a neat one to go into; the older the store the better. There's all sorts of neat little side rooms that are hidden throughout the store. My favorite is the upstairs apparel stockrooms which have one of those loss prevention windows that overlook the store. Its nice and quite up there on a hot day, the best place to be.

| | | I checked this site out with another UER member last night. Pictures are posted below. We checked out the site earlier in the day and noticed a substantial amount of lights on inside the KMart. We figured we would still come back later since the site still seems pretty abandoned. A fence had to be climbed to get to the back of the building. All the doors were locked, so we basically just climbed some fences and took photos of everything in the back.

We weren't able to reach the roof. Any good suggestions on how to get on a roof which is 20' up? Also, the actually door knobs/locks were unlocked. It seemed as if they were all padlocked from the inside. Another trip may be in the works.

| | | I know there's an abandoned Kmart in Juneau, but I've only seen it from the highway when I was visiting a few summers ago. Freak's probably been there though.

Three words: the Little Giant. Seriously, folding ladders - dump over fence, hope no one sees, wait a bit, then climb over and use said ladder to get up. Win. Of course they're not cheap ladders, but much more handy than say, a non-collapsible ladder. I take it since you poked around the K-Mart area that no one is really watching you and you don't have to be careful of noise, either.

| | | Yeah a ladder would be nice, although at the time we thought we were going to have to be sneaky. that tactic was scrapped when we made a ton of noise. Some houses were close, but buffered. there was also a trucker sleeping towards the front, but he either didn't wake up or didn't care. No,it wasn't on Aurora. Is there an even better Kmart that way?

I'm unsure if I will go back. The building was secure and very near an active area of town. We definitely need to get something going though.
