Building quality: low cost my ass.
It would cost a fortune to restore those buildings. Or by quality are they referring to how well it was built?

It's also listed as "ABONDONED".

I get the impression that you guys in the Seattle/Tacoma area have bupkis to explore. Sad, since I'm thinking about moving there. Is there even a local urbex community of friends?

When I visit Everett and Seattle, I make it a priority to explore with the locals. So whether or not there are peeps out there to explore with, you can count on me to hang with and see stuff.

And WA peeps don't even have an excuse for not exploring anything. Why? Everytime I visit the area, I always find new places. See my LDB submissions for proof.

C'mon guys!! You can do better. Show the Pac SW your stuff! lol

wow, I've been out for about a month now.

I would love to exploring with a Seattle group sometime in April/May. If anyone wants to go just send me a private message and we can get something going.

I'll be out until mid April, but after that ever night is open game

On another note, it is nice to see the PNW has gotten a little more chatty since my last visit. Maybe it was just the winter, we're all hibernating.

My Mate and I are actually planning to take a trip up there in the coming months. I've been dying to get out more but the cold makes it not as pleasant to go exploring places...

Tacoma is pretty dangerous. Cops are always on the look out for people in abandoned buildings for its well known gang and drug activity.

Running into them would be a bad idea... and being reported/seen would be being assumed to be someone involved in aforementioned activity.

Everett isn't that bad. I've walked the streets alone with my camera and the worst I've ever encountered is some chatty homeless people. I'm not saying it's a great neighborhood, but I've never felt like I was in any danger. I grew up in NJ (Passaic, Paterson, Clifton) so maybe my idea of a rough neighborhood isn't the same as yours.

That said, I managed to get this shot in downtown Everett: http://www.flickr....72157600551453841/ This is behind the convention center and next to the jail.

Tacoma has a horde of interesting buildings. Unfortunately, exploration of some of the more alluring ones such as the abandoned B.P.O.E., and other buildings in the surrounding area, also historically significant, such as the Pythian Temple and a few others in the historical district are virtually inaccessible due to the buildings being located in the hub of Tacoma activity. Factors such as heavy pedestrian traffic and the Business Improvement Area impede the likelihood of successful infiltration.

Interesting exemptions include the Old Tacoma City Hall, which will likely be gentrified in the future. All of the businesses that occupy it have been kicked out- all except for the Pierce County Aids Foundation, which resides in the basement, because they have a 50 year contract. This building is very easily accessible during the daytime via the fire escape. There is some vandalism in the fire escape, and on boxes of refuse that have been pulled from the old derelict offices, like a stencil that reads "I AM STARDUST.", likely the product of some sentimental SOTA kid. Take the fire escape to the top and you can get access to the rooftop as well as an amazing glass sun-room filled with interesting artifacts. As for this building in particular, I have yet to explore the clocktower or the old prison in the basement, though security is relatively low.

I've also heard rumor that there was a murder at the old B.P.O.E., and plan to check out the News Tribune's archives to verify it sometime soon...
