Let's see some activity from the Pacific Northwest. We are being outdone by pretty much every region in terms of threads and content.

I'm going to say that a lack of active explorers and available locations is mostly to blame for the lack of content on this thread.

i dont know, i think theres plenty of places, just lack of either exploring them or talking about it, but i agree its lame and we need to pick it up in here!

Yeah, I bring this up because everyday I check UER and always see the other regions busy with threads, etc. Maybe with unemployment rising we'll all soon be UERing all the time!

I am in the Seattle area. If anyone is interested to meet up just PM me, and we can set something up.

phaeax and I checked out an abandoned Kmart last night. It was somewhat unsuccessful since all the doors were secured.

Believe it or not, I actually find quite alot of places to explore when I visit the area and see my family. Plenty of sites in Seattle, Everett, Snohomish, and other outlying areas.

Look for blackened out buildings, basement entrances, and fenced in areas. That always leads me to victory. -- I think I posted a few in the WA state area from my visits (look for them in the LDB under my username.

No excuse for you locals!

Can't speak for Seattle, but PDX is much more secured that all the other cities that I've explored with the possible exception of Vancouver, BC. I'm too old and too well payed to go around getting arrested and risking my career. That said, I know of 2 rooftops near my house that I'm hitting up as soon as it warms up.

I'd go explore more but winter isn't very friendly to camera batteries or tripod setups, and I usually post my work in the photography section or in the DB. This summer I will revisit many locations and take better pictures, thereby eliminating many a crappy gallery from my computer.

You guys need to do more mines! The West coast, especially the Continental divide area and Western Canada, have thousands of hard-rock metal mines. They're way more stable and relatively safe compared to the coal mines of the East, and more numerous than the few rock mines and iron mines of the Midwest. Gas also isn't as much of an issue, although you have to consider "stale" air. I grew up exploring mines in Alaska, sure it's not for everyone, but after you've done a few you get a good instinct for what's safe and what isn't.

I just found this guy's photos, is he on here? These are sweet!

Also someone needs to get a boat and go check out the large ghost and semi-ghost towns out among the islands and BC coastline.

One good way to find such things is to go over old topo maps from the 1940s and earlier, they can often be found at university libraries and archives. The older topo maps tend to show a lot more mine entrances than the modern ones.

I've been to Cleary Hill but didn't get to see everything or bring a tripod, but I'm going back before the summer and I'll try to get to Hi-Yu as well.

There's that one place down in Healy too. Looks interesting, but is kind of a long drive from Fairbanks for a day trip.

Get some cross country skis and check out the mines around Ester Dome! I think the Grant Gold mine is intact and not collapsed. There are maps in the UAF library archives someplace.

There's a cool old mill on the Grant Gold mine road too.

Yeah. Alaska actually has a ton of amazing locations, but they are spread out across the state, and with the costs of travel today are not worth the expense. However, there are a few good places in Southcentral that are within decent driving distance. I'm usually in Anchorage over the summer, so let me know if you decide to visit.

A little bird told me you can squeeze around the gate in the Independance Mine water tunnel.

Also there's wide open adits if you hike up above where the average tourist gives up.

Anyone around the Everett area? I just joined the forum a week ago. I'm not from here, so I really don't know what's worth checking out as far as UE is concerned. Honestly, I haven't done it since I was a teen in NJ. Back then I didn't have a camera, now I do and I've been looking for something worth photographing. What's worth the trip around here?

Cheers
