Abandoned in Alaska Thread

All of my future explorations will be posted in this thread instead of creating new ones for each location.

This collection of abandoned vehicles, earth-movers, trailers, junk, and a container full of garbage is at a construction site not far from my house. My brother and a friend went with me as well.

Interesting.I wonder why all that stuff was simply left there, and why aren't the owners having to clean it up? I can see that it's become a dump site as well, just curious as to why all those machines were left there like that.

It cost bucks to import supplies to Alaska, as well as export junk. Stuff that may be thrown away in the lower 48 is kept around for possible reuse. I've spent time in Fairbanks and it's amazing how much junk people keep around, and it seems an acceptable practice up there.

It's also has large expanses or open land, so real estate isn't tight, so they can let this stuff sit for eternity.

Nice look there. Thanks.

Gorgeous old Terex scraper there. We still have a few of those in use in my area.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

I'm surprised the Cat tractor is just sitting there, those things are worth a lot, and pretty much impossible to destroy. It's really too bad the vandals got to that equipment, I'd be camping out there with a shotgun if I were the owner.

I'm a bit surprised myself as most of that stuff wasn't there a year ago.

Likewise... I wonder how often they check up on the stuff, seems like it'd be better secured seeing as that gear is easily in the mid-5 digits in price.

Welcome to Alaska casual-- you want to store things so no one can steal them? Let them be concealed by snow for a couple 7 months.

Damn...there's a house near my school that looked abandoned, but some recent scouting revealed that it's still occupied. However, I have been using Google Earth to look at some potential places to explore within a few days.

You would think that finding abandond stuff on google earth would be easy in alaska but it is just so hard to tell unless you check it out. Some people live in some pretty run down houses out here.

Keep it real!!!

Found this house way up on the hillside. My brother and his friend wanted to go home, so I didn't stay as long as I wanted. I will return with some more pics.

The Geo Trakker looks like it could be used again (those things aren't that old are they?) Why is that just sitting there? The old house is a good find, was there a canoe in one of those photos of the house?

I like this thread.

but it brings one question to mind.. Is it REALLY TOUGHER in Alaska?

40+ year olds with Myspace pages are not cool, they are pediphiles on the prowl. Buyer beware.

That's right bitches, we eat polar bears for breakfast and go clubbing with baby seals. Also we all have dangerous fishing jobs that are televised by the Discovery Channel.
