Peter Cooper Glue Factory

The Peter Cooper Glue Factory lies on the Lake Michigan coastline about 15 miles south of downtown Milwaukee in Carrollville, a tiny industrial town which I believe was later annexed by Oak Creek. There are eight buildings on the grounds, the largest of which is a warehouse which appears to have been storing soil or manure at the time it was abandoned. The second and third largest buildings comprise are the factories and shipping areas that are the oldest buildings on the site. The fourth largest, and perhaps most interesting, is another factory (the only one I photo'd in this set]. Other buildings include a garage, office buildings, and a pumping station. it's been abandoned since 1985.

This was the first time I've been to this place, so I focused more on exploring than taking pictures. Also, my camera is brand new, so I have to relearn how to take good photos again. I'm hoping to go back soon, when I can take some more artsy and decent photos, hopefully with better light. I only took photos in one of the buildings, the first one I visited, the smaller factory facility in the South East corner of the site, but I visited the warehouse filled with poo (albeit very briefly, it smelled like shit and was too dark to appreciate)and the main refinery (which was really great, but without my tripod and in the light available I couldn't really take a decent photo). It was spiffy.

Here's the limited photo set:

The pics are actually quite good, but very cold looking....pardon me while I slip under my blanket and shiver for a bit.

This is really interesting to me, thanks for posting. The town where I grew up and my family grew up ( gowanda NY ) had a Peter Cooper glue factory in it.

The factory polluted the town and almost everyone there has problems.

Here is my little link.

Excellent. I wish I knew more about the history of the Oak Creek plant, it's particularly elusive to find any information about it. About all I got was that it closed in 1985 and that the main building suffered a five alarm fire in 1987 (which led me to guess was the reason that all the windows and openings were covered with plastic). Most of the stuff on the web refers to the '32 ghosts that haunt the place because they were all brutally murdered in the gelatin pits.' The city of Oak Creek has floated a light desire for development there, but they're selling non-contaminated farmland a few blocks south first.

I'm not sure what you posted is the glue factory. Some time ago, someone created separate locations in the database for United/Hynite Fertilizer Co. and for the Glue Factory. I'm not sure if that's correct or not, but it seems like it may be. When we first went out there, after reading the directions on the "omg murders!" websites, we went into the fertilizer building thinking it was peter cooper too, then discovered that the glue factory was actually another building altogether.

This would be the fertilizer company: http://maps.google...pe=&q=carrollville,+wi&ie=UTF8&ll=42.879243,-87.845789&spn=0.001079,0.002511&t=h&z=19&om=1

This would be the glue factory: http://maps.google...pe=&q=carrollville,+wi&ie=UTF8&ll=42.881975,-87.850365&spn=0.002158,0.005021&t=h&z=18&om=1

It looks like your pictures were from the one dubbed fertilizer company, which, if you google hynite, you get an address which points to the corner of 5th and depot, which makes it seem likely that the database is right and they are two separate companies. I know we found paperwork in that building talking about the fertilizer company a few years ago.

Just thought I'd add that, as you may also be able to find more information/history if you search for the fertilizer company instead of just peter cooper.

Thanks, I wondered about the great differences between the buildings. That explains the warehouse filled with soil.

I saw that and thought "It's a sad day when taggers have to copy Hollywood trip as they ply their trade." C'mon taggers, get a bit of creativity about yourselves! Hollywood should copy your shit, not the other way around.
