 |  | Parks around Seattle/Puget Sound

|  | | | Would anyone like to touch on some parks that are very close to good urban exploration sites, or parks that are just plain cool. I know parks and green spaces are everywhere in Seattle and the surrounding area. A few stand out for me, which are
-North Sea tac Park
This park used to be where numerous houses were, but the airport bought them up when it was being built and now it is a Frisbee golf course. One of the more interesting things about the place is not all of the foundations have been removed, so several are still lying around. If you keep walking around the park, there usually is an occasional rose bush that has survived years of not being cared for and out of control hedges which have grown to enormous heights. Other than that, there is a fair amount of random things to discovered, such as a red staircase leading off into no where, a rugby field, a hidden lake, and the sonic boom from landing airplanes.
Sadly to say, there used to be an abandoned school, however one summer some kids were playing with fireworks and it was burned down to the ground. A funny thing about the place though is that when they cleared the remains of the school away, they still left Danger tape and Caution tape buried in the ground, which is a bit funny. But me and my friends have all gathered most of it up by now anyways.
Another interesting place that is near the park is the Highline Botanical Gardens. Its a really neat garden with this huge Japanese garden with an artificial waterfall.
As the airport has expanded over the years, it has acquired more property and has torn more houses down. The areas that aren't fenced off are fairly good for taking a look around, but aren't very interesting other than the occasional rosebush. It's always good to be on the look out for the Port Police, which are a supplement to the dismal police coverage which the city of Burien and Sea-tac usually have on hand.
-Freeway park
This park is in downtown Seattle and is another interesting park. It's above I-5 and over by the Washington State Convention center. It's a bit of urban jewel, and is tucked away from the main area of downtown where the tourists come out and play. But the fact that tourists do not go to it is it's downfall. Many bums sleep around the park, but a visit in daytime they usually don't bother anyone. It's main attraction is the public art surrounding it, the large concrete structures, and the fountains and waterfalls flowing over the concrete. It really is a breath-taking place, and usually there aren't too many people around it. Skateboarders like to converge at the spot along with your fair share of Seattle grunge people.
