| | Prime Target: In West Vancouver < on 5/5/2007 12:37 AM >
| | | I'm planning on going tonight, May 4th. Anyone who is interested in a last minute UE operation is to email me at [email protected] I won't reveal the location of the site here, since it is a) quite obvious if you spend any time in West Van and b) i don't want a bunch of noobs ruining it for all of us. The West Vancouver Police Department is the hardest to deal with of all police organizations in British Columbia. Overfunded, overzealous, and seemingly omnipotent. They don't actually do much more than cruise main roads and occasionally look around schoolyards and parks at night for drunk teens and bums who make their way over from Vancouver. Now normally cops aren't much of a problem for UE but, I have spent my entire life living in West Vancouver and know how the cops here work. They WILL respond to all calls made by citizens of suspicious activity, as they are usually sitting in their cars with nothing better to do. So, as explorers we must exercise caution in West Vancouver. A stray flashlight beam or the flash from a camera could mean chaos. However, there is one thing to our advantage, and that is the terrain. It's quite easy to escape in to bushes or to find a side street where you would not be able to be found. You might think I have a lot of concern over the police but it's only because of the WVPD that I have this concern! However... I bought a police scanner some time ago. And the WVPD are one of the only Lower Mainland departments still using regular VHF radios, and are fully monitorable. Needless to say I will be doing so tonight. If you know what this location is, please also keep it secret. Yes it is an obvious target but in some ways it isn't because most of us probably don't drive or walk by it much. Let me just say it consists of about 30 single-family homes, just purchased and slated for redevelopment. Demolition began about two weeks ago and is planned to continue until fall. Lots of fun stuff to explore I'm sure! Most of the homes I have seen are boarded up, however those are just the ones visible from the nearby road, and I have half a mind to think that some of the others within are not boarded up. There are also lots of yellow sectional fences placed around the area but you can just walk right in, it is not locked up in any way, and I have never seen a security guard in the area at night. Well my friends, if you would like to join myself, grim, or the butcher tonight - please email! [email protected] or MSN [email protected] Best of luck and if nobody joins us tonight, then we will scope it out and return later - so don't hesitate to contact me if you want to come on a return trip! This area will be around for some time.

| | | Yawn.........it's all old news...the homes behind the #$@%, the VHF...ya yah.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |

| | | At this point all the homes are now vacated and fenced off. Should now make for an interesting run... What, you got anything better to explore in Vancouver? Face it, there's nothing here. It all gets built in to condos a week after it's vacated. Same goes for this place.

| | | There's lots of stuff in Vancouver and surrounding areas. Some active, some abandoned. It just depends on what you like and how hard you are willing to look. A lot of research can often pay off.

Woah. I've explored in the GVA once and I know there's more than a few abandoned houses. Open them peepers wide. If you're on the North SHore and just want a nice day out get onto the old highway bridge just before the ferry terminal. I love that thing...big curving bridge with no cars=surreal.

| | | The only thing that bridge is known for is a) kids throwing old couches and TVs off it and b) high-school parties that get broken up after 20 minuets. I know because I grew up around there. It's sort of surreal, yes. But the trash makes it kind of lame. There is a marked trail that leads down to the tunnel opening for the rail line that goes up north. BTW nice shot off the top of the Bay. Though, I've seen more than a few movies shooting from that position, so it's nothing new. [last edit 7/6/2007 10:24 PM by tek! - edited 1 times]

You might be referring to the other old highway bridge just east of there, which is actually part of a normally active road - the bridge is closed right now for repairs and assessment.
