Can I see a show of hands as to who might be available for checking this place out during the week & during the day.

Can't beat an all access legal trip. I'd be game for a trip down south for this.

I went by and took a quick look from two sides. You couldn't really see much from down the hill

I just put those snapshots as a location database and anyone can view them for the time being:

So much potential there.

Where on the map would the new housing development be?

If you look at the first pic, the development is in the top center part, between the 2 roads leading down and left. It's mostly just raw land at this point, but they have a demo house mostly constructed, and foundations being laid for more.

I'm really hoping this trip happens!

It's along the north end of red shaded portion of Strong Rd.

You'll see this sign when you get there:

We'll update this thread when we damn well feel like it.

I tried waiting a while for the guard at the main entrance, but he didn't show. Maybe he could be talked into letting someone in for a closer look.

EDIT: Your attempt to save face has failed.

Just curious how can you be on here so long without having more than 7 posts?

I wonder if the no trespassing signs count because those are from when it was an active location. It wasn't an "asylum." It did have outpatient mental health services as time went on, but it was for people with MR (mental retardation)/DD (Developmental disabilities), a "state school." Where usually very little actual schooling went on....

I initially wondered that myself, but then saw some fresh warning signs around the main entrance. One of them said something like 'This area patrolled by XYZ Security Co."

Again, the area IS regularly patrolled, and has an on-site guard. That said, the complex is very large, and he can't be everywhere at once. I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to get in and watch him to establish a pattern of activity.

The best place to do this would be the west hill area where the individual houses are. There are some good vantage points there where you wouldn't be seen, and is probably the easiest area to escape from if necessary.

Well it's Salem. A group of strangers would easily make neighbors suspicious, especially after dark.

If neighbors see a bunch of guys sneaking into the hospital, they might call the police and turn out worse than being spotted by the rent-a-cop himself.

I signed up when The Wraiths linked to the forums. I originally signed up under a different username, but back then the PNW forum wasn't active so lost interest and forgot about my username, had to sign up under this new name, lost interest again and then eventually came across the hospital site and remembered UER and thought I’d check it out again and see if I could drum up some interest on some untouched territory.

Who said anything about going in with 'a bunch of guys'? When entering a place like this for the first time, I always go alone, with an escape route at the forefront of my thoughts.

Unless you know and trust the people you are with very well, how do you know how they will act when the shit hits the fan? You're not there to have a party, but to explore the place as quietly and discreetly as possible.

Anyway, the houses I was talking about are abandoned, and are part of the location. There are several ways of getting in without being seen by nearby residents.

Why would you go after dark?

Deuterium, those pictures are great. They whet further my appetite to see the place. This location has particular resonance for me, as I work with MR adults. (Albeit not at a facility as interesting as this one. Not until next month, anyway.) I really find myself drawn to places and things which pertain to my chosen vocation. It seems like seeing this site would be a fascinating look at some of the lineage of the job, if that makes any sense. If a legal trip does happen, I'd be flattered to be included. Alternately, if reconnaissance yields successful infiltration, and whomsoever does it would be willing to have my newbie ass tag along, I'd be grateful. I'm hoping to make some time in the next couple of weeks to go down and scope it myself, but the viability of that remains to be seen.

A person of a person of a person of a person I know took a night trip there a few days ago.

Things to consider... most buildings still have power, almost all of the buildings that were given a closer look appeared to be alarmed. The night security seems to be on the ball, think a cat and mouse game. Some buildings had easy access, i.e. unlocked windows and the occasional rare door.

Good luck.

I moved here from Connecticut. Lived near Norwich State Hospital and made plenty of trips there. Would be interested in going, preferably daytime, for urb ex and photographing. If anyone is interested, let me know.
