| | | Posted by sonikgirl the bugs will eat you alive, man! bring a tent just in case, it's pretty damp, and dirty, moldy and gross in those places. can't imagine the air quality would be too good either..
| Bugs, yes, bugs. I had forgot about them. We'll have to bring tents, even if we do sleep in doors. And, air quality, didn't consider that either. I imagined the ruins to be similar to the open-air ruins at Point Pleasant Battery and York Redoubt.. We'd barely be inside, just enough to shelter us from the wind. Now that I think about it, it could be just as simple to sleep between buildings or, apparently, where cannons we once mounted (a friend is explaining it to me)... Just wanna get out of the wind

| | | Every time I've been inside the forts, it's always been damp and mouldy. There's always been puddles or pools of water, and the air is always heavy and stagnant. Why anyone would consider camping in those conditions is beyond me.. There's plenty of good places to camp on the island, but the only sanctioned camping spot, and the only place I've ever camped, is at the old tea house building site. Good camping spot, and only a ~30 minute walk in each direction to Fort McNab and Fort Ives, Strawberry Battery, the old rifle range, etc. Wind wouldn't be a problem there, as it's a well sheltered location in the woods.

| We considered camping in an open air room and obviously not in heavy, stagnant, moldy conditions. Like I said, our concern was with shelter from the wind which an open air building or room would provide, as would the cannon mounts, based on what I'm told. The thought at the time was that we'd be going over the next couple weeks, meaning we'd need as much protection from the elements as possible because it really isn't warm enough yet. The smart thing to do would be to wait for summer but that may not be an option for my group since I think we might be parting ways sooner than later. The campsite was described to me as being out of the way. If it actually isn't that far out of the way and it's protected from the wind, etc., we'll most likely stay there. Is anyone up on what happened to the kid who died out there? One of my friends went out there not long after his death. On the ride out, Red Beard mentioned something about a creepy dude, a pedophile type guy, who lurks out there. He was lurking the night that the kid died out there. Apparently, this creeper sleeps in the hull of a wrecked boat? Is there any truth to any of this?
