Anything around Brooks, AB?

Hey folks. First post. Couldn't find much in the forums for Southern Alberta (More South than Calgary). Just curious if there's people out there in the Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Brooks region. There isn't a whole heck of a lot of places to explore around Brooks, really. I could be wrong, but I've definitely looked. There is this one old shack/house thing I walk by sometimes. But it looks like there could be vagrants living in there.

Hope to hear from some people about this.

I gotta have more cowbell, baby!

There is a large aquaduct in brooks, quite old, part of the old bow river irrigation project run by the CPR to irrigate the land for farmers, so they could sell the land at profit. There is some old railway stuff there as well, on the south end of town, near the museum. check it out.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

There's a good reason you won't find much in Alberta on this forum.

That being said, Southern Alberta is a virtual smorgasbord of interesting places.

Yeah, I've lived here for long enough. Born here and all that. I drive by the Aqueduct almost everyday but I've learned from my cousin recently that they've put up some new gates and fences to prevent you from getting really close to it or even on it.
Kinda don't wanna go poking around on my own. Are there any people from around here that I could accompany, or whatever? Thanx.

Ya, within a 3-5 hour drive of there is hundreds of great places. But most of them are kept offline to protect them from vandals etc.

Generally if you show the community that you serious and capable of finding things on your own, you are welcomed with open arms.

Right around Brooks there is not much that I am aware of. I have a VERY STRONG hunch there may be something in the Hat and few things south of Brooks but I do not have high hopes for any giant factories and such.

Without a car finding anything is a long shot.

If you ever come to Calgary then email [email protected] and you'll be made welcome, taken to locations and given free accommodation. We'll help save you the $$$ you spend on the flight over here :)

Oh yeah, I have a car. I mean, truck. I had a car for so long and now I have a truck that I refer to as a car. Anyways, I was driving around today on my day off and found a bunch of old buildings just laying out in the middle of the prairie near some trees and stuff. Didn't have my camera though. Might have to check it out again in the spring when I won't get stuck in the snow.

I got a AWD truck and a snowmobile stuck in the snow in the last 4 days doing UE. Part of the deal with UE for me.

*sniffles and shivers.* Well, today was like -25C here. Really darn cold. I'm sure I'll come across something when some of this snow melts.
I also tried explaining UE to a couple friends of mine and they just don't get it. I guess some people are just hopeless.

*throws a snowball at FyRePhReAk.* Banzai!

In the meantime I should look for a bigger memory card for my camera. 32 megs is lame.

Hey man, I worked outside today, in Cochrane where the windchill was almost -40.

Dude, you also live in Brooks, where the chief employer is a slaughterhouse, you really expect a reasonable level of cognitive thought from the residents in that town?

Walk away.

I'll let you guys know in the very near future of any findings I.... find. Hmm.
Happy 'splorin!

P.S. I couldn't agree more about the whole slaughterhouse thing. I deal with the public a great deal and most of those I deal with work at said house of murder. Some are real "winners".

You can keep it.

I still can't figure out how any of your appendages haven't turned white, then blue, then black, and fallen off yet.

Walk away.
