I've been out there several times, but it seems they're really stepping up the security. The last time I was out there with a friend shooting pictures, we had a maintenance guy in a truck and an entire carful of Hispanic folks catch up with us. The maintenance guy was just about fit to be tied, yelling didn't we see the no trespassing signs (we did, but really: does anyone really *obey* no trespassing signs?).

After a 10 minute conversation with the guy assuring him we weren't there to spraypaint the place - the $8,000 worth of camera equipment helped with our story - he calmed down and said they'd become more paranoid because they busted a crew of folks down in the basement sawing through the copper water main. Apparently the water main feeds the trailer park across the street, and when they sawed through it, not only did the trailer park have no water, it started to flood the basement. When the cops showed up, they were floating on pallets, still trying to saw through the copper pipe. He also said some kids came in and smashed up all the toilets, but because they videotaped themselves doing it, they were prosecuted after the cops got them.

One final note: he stated they were preparing to demo the place and move the remains into the landfill they were creating (~100 meters from the building), so if you have any intention of going out there, I'd suggest you do it soon. Just park your car somewhere other than on the property, go during the week during working hours, and approach from the South side, as the North side is where the workers are digging the landfill area. Try not to disturb the birds as much as possible, as this is how they tell if someone's in the structure. Bring some birdseed or something.

I've got some artsy-fartsy pictures at bitspit.com, as well.
