Midgetville

I came to this site interested in learning more about a few VA exploration spots and was crestfallen to find that there has yet to be a post on midgetville (correct me if I'm wrong). For those of you who have not heard, Midgetville is a "small" (no pun intended) community of "little people," taking root in vienna, a economically booming suburb of DC. People claim that normal sized people live in the incredibly small houses. I know housing costs are skyrocketing in this area, but I find it hard to to believe that a person would be so desperate that they'd buy a tiny house. But this is all digression.
Several of the houses, though small, are quite ornate and, dare I say, beautiful. Unfortunately, the small remnant of my town's past is falling apart. Also, the owners have plans of tearing it down to make room for McMansions. The demolition is probably taking place this summer, so if you're going to explore, do it now. Location is as follows:
Midgetville is an offshoot of Wedderburn lane, which is directly off of Cedar lane, near Thoreau Middle School in vienna. It's tucked into the woods, but it shouldn't be too hard to spot. It's on a small gravel road.

This house is leaning at a dangerous angle. I wanted to go in and check it out, but my common sense got the best of me.

Good luck exploring!

Is it still there? I thought it had already been demolished. I grew up near Northern Virginia and so have heard all kinds of crazy rumours about it, but then I did some research and found that it was originally built as a small resort community in the early 1900s. It is still owned by the same family and they deny to this day that it was ever built or inhabited by "little people."

The size of those houses really does make you wonder, though. If they are still there and are going to be demolished this summer, then at least some of them should be empty. I think it's time to take a peek inside and settle this legend once and for all. We will have our answer by what height the countertops, etc. are.

Edit: Just a little tip Fixues - it is a faux-pas on these boards to give exact location info. [I realize that Midgetville's location is given in the articles, which can be easily found on Google.]

Sorry about the location information... I'll remember that next time I post.

I'll be heading back to midgetville sometime in may to get more pics. Until then, I'll see if I can find more information about the demolition dates.

Anyone semi-interested definetly should look into going. Recently, there have been some rather large dogs outside waiting when I approached. Also, it isn't uncommon to here about some kids getting chased out by angry inhabitants or sometimes being spooked away by squad cars. Basically, if you're going to check it out, I would recommend sometime where it will be almost empty (for example, a day when schools have off but business and federal organizations are still in session) or late at night/early in the morning. I would say the best window of opprotunity would be between 12-4 am any day of the week. Vienna Cops don't care to much for working late and you shouldn't be bothered at that time, as long as you keep quiet.

I live in Reston and have heard of this place. I have never gone though. I thought it was just some urban legend. I will definitely go soon though.

I drive by the street it's off of every now and then. Depends on how bad the traffic is on 66. I can see the street that "Midgetville" is on right from the road.

I went once a few years ago, driving my brother and some of his friends. It was pretty interesting until someone came out of their house with a gun. We left pretty quickly after that.

Granted, it was two in the morning, and we were only mostly sure we were still on the road, but still.

Haha I don't see the big deal if they are tearing them down anyway.

The big deal is that because it is being torn down, there isn't much time left to see this anomaly. I mean, where else can you see a collection of tiny houses?
