New and looking for places to explore in DC area

Hey, Im Danny. I am a bit new to the whole Urban Exploring thing, in that I never knew it was such a widespread thing. But I have been exploring abandoned buildings and pipes and sewers for a while. Right now Im just feeling incredibly excited that there are other people who love this stuff. I live in Northern Virginia about 30 minutes out of DC. Can anyone tell me any cool spots in this area for exploring?

I live really close to dc too. There is a possibility of good tunnels around the chesapeake bay(eg georgetown) as well as rock creek park. However, I haven't found a whole lot yet. If you ever want to have a meetup with some other folks, let me know.

To my knowledge. They are 'patrolled by neighborhood kids' though..that's about it.

Danny, You're a lunatic. There's the old distillery( I think) on Old Reston Ave. I dont know if you could get in. It's near the 7-11 where I live.

Me.

The dishes are fine, not demolished. As far as "local kids" go, you might run into a paintballer, but that's about it.

Once you've gone to the dishes, IM me again... I might have some other suggestions.

Alright awesome. I was a little worried that they were demolished when I was looking them up because their current state was unclear. Hopefully I am going this weekend, if my friend from PA comes down to go. Thanks for the information.

I just moved to NOVA 2 years ago and I have been to the Lorton Prison Yard once. I want to do some more exploring and photographing.

Does anyone know if the Prison Yard in Lorton is still in existence or if it has been torn down? I heard that they'e planning on tearing it down.

If anybody is down for getting together to explore and photograph let me know...

Hahaha

Nobody said Glenn Dale?!

Glenn Dale (also sometimes spelled Glenndale) was once a tuberculosis sanitarium for the population of Washington D.C. in the 1930's. The treatment buildings are mostly comprised of open and closed terraces to let fresh air envelope the patients, one of the few known treatments for TB at the time. There are two large buildings on campus, the tall adult facility and the sprawling children's hospital, each had their own morgue.

After the tuberculosis epidemic died out, Glenn Dale hospital was used to treat the chronically ill. The facility closed in 1981, much of the place is stripped and a little trashed, but the terraces overgrown with vines are a beautiful sight. County cops and park police patrol the grounds regularly.
